80s Araya 700c low aero rims tire width question
I have a later 80s Masi that has Araya 700c low aero rims with very nice Wolber SL 19 Cotton 700 x 20 tires.
This bike has been more a display since I have other nice classics to ride.
I really want to give that made in Italy using Columbus SLX-SP Manganese alloy, Super Butted tubes more loving ...
Dont want to wear out those hard to find Worber tires so question is, how wide can I go ?
I have some good yellow 28 width tires that would look great with the yellow Masi decals.
Would this work ? If not, how wide can that setup go ?
TIA for any suggestions.

The guideline offered by ISO/ETRTO, Sutherlands and many tyre manufacturers is that the tyre width should not exceed 2.25 times the rim width of hooked edge rims (as measured between the inside of the flanges). I haven't seen a 1980s low profile aero rim from Araya that wasn't hooked edge or narrower than 13.6mm. That width would safely handle tyres with a 28mm section.

The 8Oo's Araya rims ran about 14 center and 19 outer and are hooked so you should be able to run up to 32's nice, but your frame set will likely only take up to low profile slick 28's.

How wide of a tire can a 80s masi road bike allow ? This is ofcourse assuming true wheels
