New bike, stripped pedal threads in left side crank arm.
Title is the short of it, put together my new bike, ordered from Performance bike.
I rode for about a half mile and the left pedal started wobbling, sure enough it worked out and destroyed some of the threads.
Took the pedal off and rethreaded it in to what was left of the threads, it tightened up nice and snug so I took it out for another ride. Felt fine for the quick 1/2 mile ride I took, then after running some errands went to take it for another ride and it is slightly loose again. I figure riding it at this point will just make it worse.
So, what do I do? Is it possible to buy just a left side crank arm? Or is the better option to have a heli-coil put in?
This sucks, because I live in a small town without a Bike shop and have little time to take it to the nearest one.
Any helpful advice is appreciated.

You might find a left crank arm on Ebay, depending on how picky you are about an exact match. Call Performance and tell them what happened and see what ideas they have.

It's a toss up based purely on economics.
If you know a shop that has the correct helicoil, you might fix it. On the other hand you might find a left arm for less than the cost to repair.
Possibly if you call Performance and explain what happened, they might sell you the correct left arm at the "pity price", or send you to one of their shops to have yours helicoiled at a discounted or no cost.

Every bike shop that I've worked in kept a few left crank arms in stock because damaging left crank arms is a fairly common problem. If you're not picky about having an exact match, that's about a $20.00 solution.
Two things to look out for. The first is crank arm length. That's usually stamped on the inside face of the crankarm. The second is the BB interface. Assuming you have a square taper crank arm, there's squares and there's diamonds. If you get the wrong one it'll force you into a real goofy pedaling cadence.

I have e-mailed Performance bike about the situation. The crank in question is not a particularly expensive one. Shimano FCM131. If I could find one it may be best just to order the whole thing and use the one crank arm and keep the rest for parts.
The Problem is I can find them on ebay, but they are all in the UK.

OK, performance bike says they will exchange the crank set, how hard is is to remove the crankset? If I am removing the crankset anyway, would I just be better off ordering a new one and putting it on instead? Or if I can get it to the bike shop an hour away see what they have in stock and have tehm throw a new one on it? What do the generally charge for labor on something like that?

Will Performance exchange just the left ? What are they charging ? As for the bike shop, just call them and ask, better than us guessing.

The way the e-mail is worded, they want me to send the whole crankset and the pedals.
Also, I am not sure by the wording wether they are exchanging for free or not? Here is the e-mail...
" I received a email back from our Product Support stating that you can return the crank set and pedals for a exchange. Please enclose the invoice or a note with your name, billing address, and approximate date of purchase. If you do not have the invoice, you will receive credit at Performance's lowest sale price. Return the package via UPS ground, FedEx ground, or insured USPS. We will reimburse for return shipping if the item was damaged or incorrect. "

I have had real good luck with Performance backing their products. I would talk to a person (telephone or go to one of their shops). I bet they will work it out.

As an aside... before you go about putting the new parts on, get some grease and grease every thread before threading it together. It'll go a long way towards helping avoid this situation in the future. Greasing the square taper BB spindles is a contentious matter... campy says no, shimano says nothing about it, and many mechanics swear by it. I've done both, can't say if one worked better than the other. Do whichever you want.

OK, my idea now is to buy a new crankset, send the old one in and probably just keep the new one on and use
the other as a backup.
Question for those in the know...this is the crnkset on the bike https://cgi.ebay.com/Shimano-Tourney-...item45fa06d04c
This is the one I have found at a decent price https://cgi.ebay.com/SHIMANO-ALIVIO-F...b755b2#payment
What are the ramificattions in the difference of the 42/32/22 and 48/38/28 sprokets??
the other as a backup.
