Is anyone running 28mm wide tires on their Emonda SL frame? Looking to go a bit wider, but want to make sure it's possible.

A tyre that measures 28mm or something like a GP4000 / 28 which can be in the 30-31mm range depending on the rim?

My SL Emonda has 25mm Continental GP4000 S II on Dura Ace C24 rims. Tire actual width measures 1.133" = 28.78mm. I find the ride nicer than on 23mm. Handling feels different but I got use to that pretty quickly.

While they are a tight fit, fully inflated they can be removed/installed with brake QR open, (Ultegra).

Chip seal size gravel stuck on the tires may or may not clear under the brakes or front fork. The undersides of mine are mildly scoured. When the rear is scrapping off lots of chip seal gravel, some falls on the chain/cassette turning the drive train into a rock crusher. Can't wear too bad as my last chain rolled 5500 miles, multiple cassettes still ok, but annoying to me when it happens.

I'd considered going wider but think it's not a good idea for me, (I don't expect much wider will work well in the real world anyway).

i have a Trek emonda SLR. The 28mm tyres can be fitted but the continental tyres are getting very big by the time. i attach you 2 pictures. one is from a continantal GP4000 II with 1000km on it, the second picture is a brand new continental 5000 .
with the new tyre there is 4mm gap. With the 1000km GP4000 the gap is only 1mm.
so... you decide what to do.
maybe the 25mm is the more safe option.
I cant understand why trek say that this bike is for 28mm tyres.

It is well known that GP4000 II run much wider than 5000 at the same tire size. 5000 is usually very close to the advertised size but 4000 is usually few mm wider.
