2012 total miles and other trivial data- let's hear 'em

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

2012 (not including computrainer rides):
7427 miles
428 rides (ride count isn't very accurate. at some point I just started adding my 2 a days together instead of recording as separate)
450 hours
13 crits
1 RR
1 TT
29 hours strength training

I still suck

I think I had somewhere around just a few hundred miles and a handful of rides.

14-16 hour days make finding saddle time hard.

Ray, that's a lot of riding for someone who started just last year.

I did 8500 miles and 900,000 feet of climbing in 2012.

Any ride with over 100 feet of climbing per mile is a good ride. To do that for a year is awesome. You are truly blessed.

9009 miles, 567 hours, 639,751' climbing, 315 rides.
Highlights:
Started commuting to work, 17 miles each way back in February. 3 or 4 days a week.
Climbed Mt. Haleakala
3 hard doubles centuries completed including the worst ever, Alta Alpina 8 pass challenge.
Purchased a Cannondale Road Tandem with my gf, now wife.

I had to ride at least 102 miles yesterday to get to 9000 according to Strava so I did a 112 mile ride.

Nope, spread out quite a bit. Just got home from the doctor, make that 4 sinus infections. I get to start yet another round of antibiotics. I was cleared to get on the trainer as soon as I'm over the sinus infection. I am allowed to go at 50%. I am to begin physical therapy on my ankle sometime soon as well.

Very impressive the miles put on by everyone.

For me, 3300 miles and 165,000 ft of climb since March. Managed to get over to CO and do the Triple Bypass this year. Lots of fun. This year, planning to do the Death Ride and try to get in to RAMROD. Looking forward to warmer weather.

Too many to count.

You inspired me to ride a ton back when you were doing 24 hour races. I was shooting for LT100, but have never been able to get an entry.

Well, I did start the Highlights thread which includes so much more than numbers.

https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...lights-of-2012

As for miles, number of rides, feet of ascent, average ride length, hours on the bicycle, calories burned, average heart rate, and number of rides over 100 miles ... I've no idea.

OK, I looked some stuff up ...

Kilometres: 4819.18
Number of Rides: 150
Average Ride Length: 32.12 km
Number of Rides Over 100 Miles: 4

Feet of Ascent: some ... I did two significant climbing rides early in the year, and then included climbing in some of my rides after that.
Hours on the Bicycle: well, according to what I've got on bikejournal, 368.5 hours. But that's a rough estimate. I don't keep very close track of time ... it's kind of hard when I ride a bit, take photos, ride a bit more, stop for ice cream, ride a bit more ...
Calories Burned: approximately ... 368.5 * 500 = 184,250 / 3500 = 52.64 lbs I must have eaten 52.64 lbs of ice cream!!
Average Heart Rate: beating

During 2012 ...

Number of Countries Cycled In: 12 (Australia, Taiwan, Japan, Scotland, England, The Netherlands, Germany, Luxembourg, Switzerland, France, Canada, US)
Number of Australian States Cycled In: 2 (Victoria and South Australia ... maybe not South Australia, we were there over Christmas last year, but might have returned to Victoria before January 1)
Number of Canadian Provinces Cycled In: 2 (Alberta and British Columbia)
Number of US States Cycled In: 11 (Idaho, Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, California)

Not as much as some of the truly impressive numbers above in this thread, but here's what I have logged in Strava:

3,315 miles
267,861 ft of elevation (including 105,334 ft during March 15 - April 30 climbing challenge, and the remaining 160k throughout the rest of the year)
Longest ride: 143.5 miles
Rides: 130
Time: 276hr 58m
Highest point reached: 8442', Onyx Summit
Lowest point reached: -248', unnamed dip on Badwater Road in Death Valley
Biggest elevation difference in a single ride: 7179'

My first logged ride was February 26. IIRC there was one more ride, ~20 miles, before I began tracking.

I can't be sure but I think that my total mileage for 2011 was <100 miles and my total mileage for 2001-2010 was somewhere on the order of 2000 miles.

500 may be too optimistic, though, especially for a woman. Depends on your size and power. I can get Strava to rate me at 500 calories/hour if I push hard enough, but I'd be pretty much floored after 2, 3 hours at most. 500/hour for a short time is not a lot (140 W) but, between stoplights, descents, catching your breath after a hard interval, the actual burn over a multi-hour ride may be less even if your FTP is in the low 200's.

Last time I rode a century, Strava rated me at 350 calories/hour, and I ate 200/hour on the bike. Net fat burn is almost negligible.
