Opinions on this bike.
Not looking for an appraisal, just wondering if this would be worth picking up for $75. Looks complete, and appears to just need a bath and an overhaul.

It's basically one of the myriad Raleigh 3 speeds produced after they bought out most of the brands in England. Would I pay $75 for it? Not a chance...but I'm sure it's worth it to someone into bikes like that. The Brooks probably has the value itself, and the chain ring looks cool.

Humber was one of Raleigh's premier brands (along with Raleigh and Rudge) and not one of the down-market ones that fit Aaron's description. The premier ones have fancy features like the cool chain guard, unusual fork, leather saddle, Raleigh-pattern rims (which are actually heavier than the more common Endrick style ones) and probably other features I'm not noticing. It's definitely worth $75 but cleaning it up may be a major project.
You are missing part of the chain case, a steel disk that covers the chain ring area. It has a window that fits over the pedal during installation and then a sliding panel to close it up.

It looks pretty neat but in need of lots of elbow grease. Any chance you can talk him down to $50?

I like it and I think any full chain case 3 speed with a Brooks is worth saving but I have a feeling you're going to be into it a lot more in terms of time and money than you initially think by the time you're done.

From a quick glance, looked like it just needs tires,tubes and cables. Plus a lot of cleaning. Not sure how I feel about it now, I wasn't aware part of the chainguard was missing. That would eat at me until I found the correct part.

IMHO- Well worth it. And I dig the exposed and lovely crank. I wouldn't bother hunting for the missing cover. Would just mildly clean and make it mechanically sound plus new rubber.

IMHO it's easily worth $75 if only as a historical relic.
It's not the kind of bike I'd want to ride, but it definitely has cool mojo.

I think it looks cool missing the part. I would be happy with it that way, and in the meantime, you can start a search.

Rear fender looks a bit bent and I wouldn't hold much hope that the rims have survived unscathed. They have a tendency (in my experience) to rot from the inside out and sound like a maraca.
Dynohub and headlight? I'd have it in my garage already.

Not sure about the rims, but I think this has been stored inside, very little surface rust, mostly dust. I've spent $75 on worse. Rear fender is bent but I've got a lot of experience with body hammers, rollers and my English Wheel.

I didn't look to hard at the bike, I thought the front wheel had a drum brake, but why would it have calipers as well. Or is that something else?

Looks like a dynohub to me with the matching headlamp. That would easily return your $75 and then some if it works and is in good condition.

Sloar - That would sorely tempt me if only for the fun or rehabbing it. It is a classic, and likely, that old lead-base paint will buff up just fine with some Scratch-X and TLC.
Likewise, that English chrome will likely be coaxed back as well...
BTW - Yellow Jersey sells a supposed exact replacement full chain case (below)- If it is as "exact" as they claim it is, possibly the cover would fit, and if so, it wouldn't be all that difficult to patina-ize it to match the rest of the bike.
This is probably the only time I would ever venture to peruse their website. (It makes my eyes hurt!)

If you're going to buy a three speed, that is a top candidate. It's hard to tell for sure, but it looks more dirty than corroded. Certainly worth the price of admission.
