Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Hey I am in the market for a new fixie. I have heard of this place, Independent Fabrications in Somerville, where they will take down all your measurements and make a nice custom fit frame for you. They can also give it a hell of a paint job. Does anyone know of this place or purchased a frame from them? What do you think?

/thanks chicagoxboston, I must have been thinking of International Bikes in Boston and typed it by mistake.

IF makes good bikes. Some of us Bike Forumers made a trek there over the summer. https://www.flickr.com/photos/trevors/sets/1039189/

On the other hand, buying a custom should be a serious thing. There are lots of builders to choose from, you should have a good reason to pick the one you decide to go with. So educate yourself about what everyone's strengths are, match that against what you're looking for, and go from there.

Those guys are so overrated. You should think about a nice carbon frame set up.

Hell no I'm not kidding. Give me good ol' carbon any day over some hand made steel frame and fork any day. And who ever thought of this whole bicycle thing anyways. I say drive as big of a car as you can. Make sure you double park it with the kids in it while it's still running just for good measure.

I've always been biased towards Jonny Cycles customs. Maybe it's my home-town-jingoism shining through, but those things are ****ing beautiful.

Their van nearly knocked me off the road once. They may build nice bikes but the drivers don't care about cyclists.
