Photos: Brooks vs Gyes

I thought I would post a few photo's in case anyone is looking to compare these saddles.

Gyes GS-17(Brown) and GS-06(Black)

With Brooks B17

with Brooks Professional

With Brooks B67

To treat them before use I put them in my oven. Brought it up to 170*. I couldn't find any cans of Proofhide so I used Dr Martens Wonder Balsam.

Lets see how they look in a year.

How they look isn't as important as how they feel. Tell us about that (and maybe the prices).

I can!

The price is much better, much, on the Gyes. Oh and the Gyes have longer rails. In the past I've had trouble getting Brooks to fit on some bikes due to the need for a large setback saddle post because of the shorter rails.

Comfort wise I don't notice a difference for the most part. I have both Swallows and GS-06's and like them pretty much equally. I will say that I'm runniny my Gyes level while the Brooks are just a tad nose up. With the Brooks level it has too much weight on my hands. I've always assumed that just means one saddle tigh is tighter than the other from the factory because they pretty much look the same.

For me I'll get a Brooks if it's used, in good shape, and cheap. Otherwise I've been opting for a new Gyes.

Brooks nose up.

Gyes, more level now than in this picture.

Brooks more nose up.

Gyes, level

Also important is how they stand up over time. I thought I would start with this before they go on. As for prices. They came off Ebay.

How much and where from on ebay did you get them? I've been looking for a bit, just finally need a reason to pull the trigger on replacing my favorite Avocets. The Gyes I've found have been around the $70 mark, when I can find Brooks around $85-90. Still debating on whether the price difference is worth it, if you can help out there

I like the looks of both. But after a storm snuck up behind me and about ruined my B17 replaced with C17 and I laugh in the rain now.

Can't in a million years imagine cooking a new saddle with a bunch of goop slathered on!

If it was to pre-soften the leather, I would look at Selle Anatomica first.

I paid $66 for the Brown and $61 for the black shipped to my door. It will need to be your decision on if the price difference is worth it. I decided to give the Gyes a try.

I have one of the gyes saddles that's supposed to be like a brooks swallow, but with the cutout. In that case, the price difference was worth it. I've never tried the Brooks it was based on, but the Gyes is a decent enough saddle. I might go back to my old standby of a San Marco Regal though as that seemed a bit more comfortable. Maybe if I get back in better shape I'll decide I like the Gyes better again.
