These are gorgeous and yet because I was just thinking about my tweenager years, they made me think of my bike-hoarding, junk-collecting, CRV-redeeming grandpa, who would set out for a bike ride into the desert every morning with a plastic bag strung on his handlebars to bring home his haul.

I recently taught myself to sew and have made a few bags for myself and some tool rolls for other people. All on an entry-level Singer Simple which seems to be enough for my needs, for now.

yeah it took me watching a bunch of videos a bunch of times to figure out how to properly set up the bobbin. everyone had their cameras in the wrong place or their hands in the way it seemed.

I covet this bag.
I haven't done any machine sewing, but I hand stitched these bags. The material is an artificially waterproofed leather, with a rather bizarre sparkly finish, not especially attractive but they've proved to be extremely useful. The material really is waterproof, and I stitched the seams tight enough that very little water gets in.
The big one on the back is an exact copy of an old English bag. Sometimes you see bags like this bearing the Schwinn brand.
The one in front is customized for the Soma 'Lauterwasser' bar, and I now have it on my commuter bike.
I've made a couple other bags, more or less by the same method, not always successful.

I'm getting ready to start making these which I call a"Bicycle Billfold". I've got over a dozen cut out and partially sewn. I'm planning on selling them loaded already with a multi-tool, patch kit with tire levers and a tube. Just attach and ride. Nice little pocket to toss a few bucks, credit/debit card or whatever. Removes in second and toss in the back of your jersey just like a wallet. With it loaded it's about 2.5" thick and can fit it into my back pocket of my shorts.

well i finished my first tool roll. definitely have some issues to work out with the tension/timing of my machine because the seams would look great on the top but the underneath side would be sloppy. hopefully i'll get things figured out before i make my next attempt
