Al Bundy was a pretty bad father, but the whole family was dysfunctional so its hard to tell. I guess I'll say Homer Simpson.
Speaking of which (both points you made), it's interesting to watch Ed O'Neill portraying two different father types, between Married With Children and Modern Family. And Modern Family is pretty funny, a pretty decent bunch of folks struggling to be good parents.

Godfather 1, maybe I'm misremembering, since Fredo seems to be still in II. Who was it got whacked at the toll booth at the end of the first one?

Sonny, but that was the work of Vito Corleone's rivals.

Fredo was murdered by the order of his brother Michael in Godfather II, which has a time frame that is both a prequel and sequel to the time frame of Godfather I.

By all accounts Vito Corleone the original fictional Godfather played by Marlon Brando was a good father to his own children. Michael, his son was a poop-heel to almost everybody including his own family.

Sounds like you fell asleep during the film.

As explained above, Sonny was not killed by his father. Also, he was no killed at the end of the film.

John Cazale, who played Fredo, was also killed in Dog Day Afternoon, which also starred Pacino. Cazale had roles in five motion pictures. Four of them are classics: Godfather I and II, Dog Day Afternoon and The Deer Hunter. (Forget what the fifth one was.) When the producers of The Deer Hunter found out he had cancer they were going to kick him out of the cast. Meryl Streep, who he was dating at the time, said if he goes, she would go, so they kept him. I sometimes wonder what kind of career Cazale would have had had he not died relatively young.

In any event....George Jefferson was a pretty awful dad.

The fifth movie, The Conversation, is also a classic and highly recommended. Francis Ford Coppola directed this wonderful movie in 1974, the same year as Godfather II.

What about the dotard himself? (Does "reality TV" count?) It always reminds me of Beavis & Butthead watching an episode of "Teen Mom":

(I'm paraphrasing...)
Beavis: "This show sux. This is some really bad acting."
Butthead: "I don't think they're acting, they're real."
Beavis: "Ahhh, so they're not bad actors, they're just bad people.".

Totally forgot about Red, the dad on "That '70s Show." The actor (Kirkwood Smith) was also an a-hole dad in "Dead Poets Society."

Jon Voight as Mickey Donovan. Complete trainwreck of a father.

(haven't had Showtime in a few years - is Ray Donovan still good?)

Jon Voigt as Pop Zoolander. Completely failed to recognize the value of his son being very very very good looking, or that he got the black lung from working in the mine for one day
