Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

"non-cycling friends" is an oxymoron to me.

I usually try to work cycling into any discussion I'm having with somebody to let them know how superior I am.

I'll bring cycling into a conversation when I'm done with that conversation, but don't want to excuse myself for politeness reasons.

Boss: "Hey, Forrest, thanks for coming to the meeting. If you can stay for a few more minutes, we need to talk about how we're going to bundle the database deployment scripts."
Me: "Uh, sure. By the way, did I tell you I'm going to convert my Cervelo to a fixie? What gear ratio do you think I should go with?"
Boss: "Yeah, never mind ... we'll just use InstallShield."

It's an online cartoon generator. You just feed them a script and they read it.

The other day I had to de-friend someone on Facebook. After I posted the video for Chasing Legends he comments about how cyclist are idiots and how they take up the road and how he'd like to run packs of cyclist down. This was the 4th time this guy posted rhetoric like that. So "click" and he's gone. Who needs friends like that and the bad thing is there are actually people driving that do crap like that. Sad. It is a funny video though and it's weird how non-cyclist' just don't get it.

It is weird how non-cyclists just don't get it. But, some of us are so addicted to cycling and that includes me. The person I carpool with (when I don't bike in), like most people in the world, is not a cyclist.

I could talk non-stop about "bike this", "training that" for hours. I have to make a real effort to restrain myself with them and my wife's friends.

I feel like non-cyclists are from a different planet. I have a hard time relating to people that worship the Video Game, Tivo, Flat Screen or Landscaping Gods. I belong to the Church of the Big Ring, however I have to admit it is a compact crankset.

One of the guys in my circle of friends is a cyclist hater too. I tried reasoning with him but it was useless so I gave up trying. Maybe I should defriend him.

I actually have a -few- friends like that, I've dealt with it by organizing small rides to breakfast on the weekend or something. Most of them appreciate cycling now, but there are a couple who remain adamant about their hate for cyclists. It's hard not to take personal offense on the matter.

Once you get those folks on a bike, they usually understand rather quickly how rediculous it is to ride your bike through the sand and glass on the shoulder at 40 mph.

I don't talk to them about it. Although that's only 1 or 2 people.

I think we have to admit that the bad attitudes of some drivers is due to the bad attitudes of some cyclist. I think we need to be vigilant to be careful to not be overstep our bounds and purposefully be a jerk like I know we have all seen done. Just saying.

People who hate cyclists are people who hate THEMSELVES because they're too lazy and un-talented to do anything that requires an increase in % of Resting Heart Rate.
