....my frame was built in '84? I read somewhere that the first two digits on a SN often are the year the frame was made. This is a Serotta frame and the bb shell has a Cinelli stamp on it. I've seen very few other Serotta frames on the internet, if anyone knows anything about Serotta history I'd be very greatful to know as well.... I've actually only ever seen two other Serotta frames, one with 'bikini' style dropouts that was said to have been built around '79. My frame has solid drop outs(no window in them). Also the seat stay bridge was just flat and aero.. Mine is flat on top and points down in the center on the bottom.. Maybe some of you have seen it I recently posted in in the "show your bike" thread.

bizarre ... serrota has made a lot of bikes in many configurations. I've seen a huffy branded track frame from the olympics that serrota made can't recall year 80's I think. Never heard of cinelli building for serotta. Stranger things could happen. I would tend to look towards the relationship between the tubing Columbus & Cinelli have been somewhat synonymous at points I think. Perhaps the lugset was sourced from columbus and that BB lug happened to stamped cinelli for some reason??? who knows for sure.

I also find it slightly odd that there are NO decals, guy I bought it from said it is original paint too.. Head tube has no decal, love the fork clearance though




Fork crown has no branding as well as no decals on fork or tubing material decal. I previously was riding a Makino keirin frame that had a Cloumbus tubing decal on the fork...




Seat tube has no decal or tubing sticker either.. only a "made in usa" sticker that i was told just is from the person who originally built it..

Looks like it. Actually, look at the fork crown race and bottom headset cup. They should be more flush with each other. Maybe the steerer tube is bent at the base. Also, looks like the seatpost was too small and the binder got mashed together. Poor frame.

you guys are ***n CRAZY. The fork is absolutely not bent, and the frame requires a 27.2 seatpost which is precisely what I have. After reading the Serrota decoded thing it seems like it's most likely an '84. Guess it doesn't truly matter though because it's a great fit for me and rides smoother than your bike so yeeeeeah.

Did scrodzilla have a grumpy sandwich for breakfast? It's not that beaten up just some paint chips, looks pretty clean in person considering that it could be that old and original. Would look brand new repainted it has not one single dent.

Dude, you can clearly see the fork is not parallel with the head tube and is angled back, typical of a fork bent where the steerer meets the crown. Also very clearly visible is the mashed seatpost binder, as TT pointed out.

+1 on the seatpost binder. Fork may or may not be bent. Photo angles can do weird things, altho it looks bent to me.

Ryrog, sick vinyl collection, bro. And sick fixie, bro. If that seatpost height is correct for you, the frame it probably too small. That combined with short stem, riser bars, and steep track geometry, it looks like you'd be all sorts of cramped up over top of the bars.

But it's not my fit. Have fun with the sw8 fixay Teddy Bro-sevelt.

Believe it or not, there are people here that have seen a few bent forks. Have you checked the fork steerer for a serial number?

I don't think that is the original paint job, Serotta decals were underneath the clearcoat.

Post your bike on the Serotta forums. You may get a response from the person that built your frame.

Cinelli fork crowns, lugs and bottom bracket shells were used by many manufacturers, even Trek. I still have a bucket full of them in my shop. The logo on the OP's shell is consistent with early to mid 80s production. Earlier shells looked like this:

Sweet bike. I think you have a 27.0 post in a 27.2 seat tube, you shouldn't have a hard time fixing that, just get a 27.2 seatpost.
