2021 Santa Cruz 5010 S vs XT builds? It ain't adding up guys!

So I just ordered a S build 2021 5010. I was trying to compare the S and XT packages to see what the value difference in the components between the two. To me It mostly looks like it's just a switch to XT components with a Rockshox fork. Other than the carbon handlebars. The two builds were similar tiers (Sram GX vs Shimano XT) and I am not really seeing anywhere near a $1k value difference. I decided to just order the S build even though I prefer XT brakes. I will order a Rockshox Pike Ultimate fork ($700 new plus shipping) and also the $170 ($140 with a deal plus shipping) Santa Cruz carbon handlebars. At the end of the day it's way less than an XT build after I sell the takeoff Fox 32 fork for $500+ on eBay, and I get another tier up on the fork than the one spec'd on the XT package. From what I am seeing that I can buy the various components for, the S to XT value difference is more like $500 than $1k that they are charging. It would make more sense if they spec'd a Rockshox Ultimate fork at that price.

Am I missing something about the XT vs S packages does it just not add up?

Santa Cruz has a deal with SRAM, so almost everything is spec-ed with SRAM components, and my guess is the XT stuff costs them more. Given the hell-disaster that SRAM GX 12-speed and the brakes have been for us, I personally would choose the XT. Where I live (Santa Cruz), it seems like everyone has one of these bikes. You pay a lot for the label and the frame warranty.

I think I would have appreciated the XT components but not for an extra $1k. I could almost buy all of that stuff in addition to the components that come on the bike for the extra $1k.

Shimano 12-speed is not the budget win that 11-speed was.

The bike also has the noted fork upgrade and a substantial wheelset upgrade.

I am 100% certain none of this would matter to me and I'd be just as happy on the $5000 as the $6000 bike.

...And just as happy with a $3500 aluminum version, if it existed. I'm sure it will soon, if this bike is successful. It and the new Mojo 4, its direct competitor, are kind of throwbacks, and took a long time to get fully refreshed.

For us, SLX was an upgrade. Once we sucked up the replacement costs, it has been trouble-free. ("We" is the kid and my wallet.)

One option is to get their frame, and build it up with whatever you think is best.

That is what I would do.

The Santa Cruz wheels seem like a good deal.
