Thanks.

They belong to some MKS MXP (MTB-style) series pedals. They're probably the succesor to the old MXP-110 pedal.

So, they're not really useful for anything now?

Probably not. They look similar to Shimano's SPD's and to Wellgo's various cleats but close likely isn't good enough. You could try them on some SPD and SPD-look alikes but I don't expect them to work.

If you don't have the pedals, might as well discard the cleats.

They look like my SPD's but it is hard to tell for sure from the photo. I'ts not clear what you are trying to achieve from your question. If you want to salvage the shoes it looks like a SPD cleat will fit. Any new pedal and most used pedals come with cleats that you could just screw in the shoes. If you want to salvage the combo as others have suggested try them on some SPD pedals.

The front of the cleat looks too long to work in SPD pedals.

Be careful with randomly matching foreign cleats to pedals. Sometimes it will work. Oftentimes it won't and most of the times it will produce undesirable/unexpected results. For instance, you may be able to get in but won't be able to get out.

As always, the old BikePro website has some information on MKS pedals and while they talk about the 110, if you're attempting to match those cleats to Shimano SPD pedals then you might want to take heed of the following...

The MXP cleat, like SPD cleat relies on notches in the upper surface of the cleat for retention system grip. These notches permit 5 degrees of free rotation prior to release. Wisely the MXP cleat is made to be compatible with any SPD compatible shoe, though the cleat is fashioned a little differently. Again, MXP and SPD cleats are not interchangeable, but they can be mounted and used on the same SPD compatibly drilled shoes.

Thanks all.

I bought the shoes w/cleats used, and thought they might be SPD cleats, but I really don't know much about clipless systems.

I will replace cleats if I decide to try out clipless. Right now, the shoes w/ cleats work perfect with my clip and strap pedals.

You might want to consider taking out the cleats and filling the holes with silicon sealant in the meantime. This will keep the shoes from scuffing up stuff unnecessarily.

The cleats are recessed enough so that they don't scrape at all, even on flat concrete or wood floors.

I think it would be best to put the screws in the holes rather than silicone sealant. I wouldn't want to dig sealant out of a threaded hole.

That works too. Just remember to use blue loctite. Although silicone sealant can usually be just punched out and the residual will get expunged when new bolts are inserted.

This was very helpful. It's now 2020 and I have a pair of the mxp-115 pedals/cleats and have been a bit confused about the details...thinking that they were a version of the spd. Nope.

I have to think that digging silicon sealant or RTV out of threaded holes would be a nightmare. I'd think that using some nylon pan-head screws would work well and be easily removable.

I'm not going to be walking on my hardwood floors with the things on, anyway. And without cleats, I'd not be riding a bike with them either! So I'd say install proper cleats and ride with them, or leave em in the closet!

New cleats are included with your new pedal purchase ..
some what recent is the Magnetic Pedal..
then the cleat is a piece of steel held on by same screws. to be attracted to the strong magnet in the pedal..

Fairly large platform pedals so you can ride the bike with any shoes, too..

Probably not, as that was posted 15 years ago.

Yep, just checked having my shoe with cleat around and it looks longer. Anyway, as others said, even cleats that come with new pedals are suggested to be replaced after some seasons of use. These have clearly seen plenty of use and if you even have a question, just replace them with the ones for your pedals, period. This is not the case of trying to save some 15 $ or thereabouts.
