Gift with purchase! What are these?
Been a while since I bought any derailleur cables. Had none left, so I tried to buy some at the bike shop I pass most days.
No surprise, they had none. When I arrived home, Mrs. Spadoni was putting in an Amazon order, so I put some cables in the basket.
Cables arrived today. They were what I expected. But I also got more ferrules than I will ever use, plus these things. What are they?
How have I kept the cables on my bike so so long without them?

They're cable clips, for holding them against the frame, usually on newer bikes.

I figured they were clips, but couldn’t figure out where they would be used. As my bike browsing is limited to photos right now, where in the name of Merckx do they attach to the frame?

Oh, now I get it. Was thinking they went all the way around the relevant section of the frame. All the photos I found had internally routed cables as did the last carbon frame I actually looked at closely.

My two bikes built for disc brakes use those clips and brazed on cable guides.

OK, I get that the housing might be more removable without threading all the way through, but a) don't the finicky braze-ons make it harder to paint a bike, and b) removable is also "lose-able" or "pop-off-able". Is there really an advantage? I've never seen these, though that may be through lack of paying attention.

Probably included based on the assumption that someone replacing housings on a bike so equipped will likely break one or more of the horseshoe clips trying to pop them off.
