Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Regardless, the end result was that he went down and took out one other guy that was behind him. The squirrelly guy was the only one injured, but he got banged up pretty good - broken clavicle and concussion.

His girlfriend was not happy when she got the call and came to pick him up and blamed our "drinking game," though the tumble took place early in the ride and no one was even remotely intoxicated (nevermind that there wasn't enough drinking during the entirety of the ride to get anyone drunk). Trying to explain to the gf that he was at fault wasn't a bridge that anyone wanted to cross, though.
Are you sure you weren't at a cyclocross race?

I've had no interest in looking at my F/F since daily morning rides became impractical - it would just depress me. Until the spring, I'm just going to concentrate on not getting too fat and out of shape. Still considering strength training, too, though I need to get a feel for how that could be practically integrated in to the routine.

I understand.

I am learning that old age isn’t so much a barrier to performance (at my level) as a drag on increasing fitness. Therefore, if I want to improve next season, that is, move from fourth to third quartile among the guys I’m riding with, I am going to have to carry a reasonably high load all winter.

I desperately need strength training, but I will have to wait until the gym at work reopens. It’s the only place I would consider safe under current conditions. Until then, it’s core and resistance bands in the basement.

With my birthday around the corner, I was thinking about this, too, when considering the goals that I should set for myself. Yeah, I'm getting further and further away from being 22 years old, but it's not like I've ever trained optimally, or even close to it, so I feel like I should be able to get stronger every year, for a few years, at least.

Absolutely! That’s only a problem for people who actually maxed out their potential at some point. I know I never did.

Got it - so that'd be like me driving to Madison, WI. That would suck. How frequent would the drive be? Weekly or so?

Today’s ride was a full 20F colder than yesterday’s. Still was a good ride. I am atop the leaderboard but not confident I will stay there.

Make sure the Strava app has acquired GPS before clipping in (It says so in a green band at top of screen on the Android version.)

I dunno much about how adaptive battery works either, but it's there...(in the version of Android my phone runs)

ETA:. I never press stop til I'm done riding for the day. Mainly because I always forget to press go again.
