Have Truck, Drive Too Much
Picked up a truck last December and I find myself using it almost every week. Normally I do have an econo car, but I gave it to my daughter and I got the truck as it seemed I borrowed one all the time from my brother in law. Now I am hauling stuff for everyone else! I am experiencing the burden of being a truck owner. Went over 1000 miles for the year today hauling trash cans. With the car that mileage would have taken 2 years to accumulate.

When I was young I realized the pitfalls of owning a pick up truck. Everyone wants to use it to haul something or move with - oh, and can you help do it too!
Personally, I own a Dodge Caravan with fold away seats which I find to be the most versatile vehicle for my lifestyle. Haul family up to seven people, sleep in it on road trips with my biking/diving stuff inside, haul a full sheet of plywood or garbage, throw my bike in the back without popping the tire off... but people don't think to borrow it the same way as a pickup.

I used to have a Toyota pickup and because I got tired of loaning it out or helping people move stuff I replaced it with car. A contractor that I know loves using a de-seated Grand Caravan as his work vehicle. He calls it his TruckVan.

The only vehicle I ever owned was a mini-van. Drove it for 15 years. Perfect vehicle, nothing else comes close. Never understood why so many people want to drive farm vehicles, perfectly designed for carrying bails of hay and manure. How does THAT not crush a [non farming] man's self esteem I do not know. I am not a psychiatrist fo sho.
Also, watching someone try to park farm equipment in a shopping mall parking spot can be entertaining.

Resident smartass.
Still have my faithful Ford Ranger. She's seen better days (big dent in the box and passenger side door after arguing with a power pole wile avoiding a speeding driver in an alley in Richmond, BC, Canada) and is starting to need to have some work done (needs new clutch and the crappy tires desperately need to be replaced). Still on the rare occasion I need her, she's there. All that having been said, my bike is my main mode of transportation locally and, with the new bike path that's opened, I can now get to several places I would have had to drive, previously.

Nobody has ever asked to borrow my '81 Toyota pickup. I hauled a cord of firewood in it the other day.

Let me take a wild guess and estimate that it was less trips than if you hauled a cord of wood on your bicycle. Probably a tad easier on the body too.

It's actually only a 3/4 ton diesel 4X4 with airbags that make it a 1 ton, and yes I still have it but because I am trying to be car light I only use it when I NEED a truck, the rest of the time I use the Prius C or ride my E-Bike... Being car light (trying to be) to me means using the right tool for the job, these people who drive pickups and only use them like cars get me PO'd… Even tho I used to be like them..
