I have a mid-90s Schwinn Mesa with Rock Shox that look similar to the Judy XC. During a day on the trail last weekend, they developed some nasty play. Is it possible to rebuild these? There's a great video on YouTube, but parts...

It was but the Rebuild kits go out of production pretty quickly. try those auction sites..

wise planning when you get a new fork get the rebuild kit at the same time..

Most suspension forks do not get parts support beyond a few years after production. There was a company called Hippy Tech that used to stock out of date parts and offered service to most makes of forks. Not sure if they are still operating, but you could check.

Lots of play suggests bushing damage, which is going to be harder to find parts for and also harder work with much more demanding tooling needs. Unless you really care about it as a collectors piece or whatever, there is almost no way that servicing the fork is particularly worth it.

If it were me, I'd probably get a rigid fork for the bike and use it for lighter offroad and commuting. Buying a new suspension fork will either be low quality, or expensive enough that probably buying a more recent bike is a better total value.

Yeah, looks like my best bet to keep this bike on the trail is a bottom-end fork and headset, like $200 or so, which is about $200 or so more than I paid for the bike... more sense to buy a bike, I think.

Hippy Tech is gone, closed up a few years ago. Nobody works on old Rockshox now.
