Shoe upgrade from 1990... will I notice?

I've been using the same road shoes since 1990. I'm old and in a group with fast young guns. My shoes seem light. They've always worked. But... So I finally got a pair of carbon Bonts. I look forward to trying them this summer. Think I'll notice a difference? Are white shoes magic? The last time I noticed a nice boost was when I got deep dish carbon tubies...

My first ever set of road shoes were some basic velcro with one single ratchet strap thingy that were the "nylon" plastic/rubber sole. Seemed stiff enough yada yada yada.

I now use lace up Giro SLX's I got on closeout.

Are they going to score me a KOM or anything measurable? Not sure. Do they look ****** AF? Yup. Do they hold my foot in an amazing way? Yup. Do they literally weigh almost a full pound less for the pair. Yup. Any of that matter? No idea, but I like em.

For the white shoes........either be so pro that you never get chain stains on your shoes or calves..........or switch to a waxed road chain.

I have a snag: my sweet carbon Bonts have Speedplay 4 screw soles. I have Shim SPD road pedals. UGH! I need an adapter. Right? But shops are closed and all the online adapters are from China... Any workaround?

I'm looking forward to seeing the performance diff of going from flexi-slippers to carbon shoes...

I don't think I've ever seen a 4-hole to 3-hole adapter.

It seems like i'm going to have to jury rig something. It seems like I might be able to FLIP OVER a standard base plate. And mod it to work.

Does anyone have extra base plates? I'll pay. The plates cost $36 in the US. But I hear that a lot of ppl don't use the ones that come with their cleats. I'd paypal you $10 if you'd mail me a couple to try. Thanks!

1990? Really? Wow that's a long time. I can't even imagine they would not have deteriorated by now.
