Help with frame size

Hallo,

I have some difficulty deciding what frame size to choose. The manufacturer table seems to suggest size L but it is very close, size M might be more fitting. Could you be so kind and help me choose the correct size?

My height is 179cm
My step length is 81/82 cm
arm length is 61cm

The manufacturer table suggests the following:

M:
step length 80/84
height: 171/176

L:
step length: 82/86
height: 177/182

The bike I want to buy is called Wilier 503 Race 29

Kind regards, Martin

Sometimes there's no substitute for testing the fit in person. If you get the large frame, you may not be able to straddle it while standing. But if you get the medium, the cockpit may feel cramped.

I'd honestly go to your local bike shop when they are next open. I'm not saying there are no experts here on the forums or that your instincts are incorrect. But a decent bike shop will have fitted hundreds of people to bikes and because they're trying to sell you a bike have an interest in getting you onto the right frame size. A decent bike shop will then make sure and adjust the bike before you take it home so you can be pretty confident that it's setup correctly. Also bikes a bit like clothes, they tend to size a bit different depending on the manufacturer and style of bike.

Is it this one, from Merlin Cycles, the Wilier 503X Race XT Alloy?

Decent bike, if you intend to ride cross country single track type stuff.

I'd ask whether you have a longer torso relative to your leg length, or longer legs relative to your torso. That difference might swing things one way or the other. Also, do you prefer a more aggressive posture for your upper body position. Do you have a strong core? That might argue toward the larger size. It's a mountain bike, so these are generally more forgiving for size adjustments. I'd get the Large based on what information you've provided so far.

Visiting a shop is difficult at the moment, waiting is not an option as it is a limited offer.
Yes, it is the Wilier 503 X Race XT, but from a dealer in Germany.
I decided to go with size L, so I will know in a few days whether this was the correct choice.
Thanks for your help again!

Is "step length" inseam? How do you measure arm length? My inseam is 84 cm and I can ride 54-56 frame size measured traditionally. My guess is this equates to a Medium frame. My height is 182. A Large frame would be toobigforme.
