when riding in my baggy shorts, phone usually goes in the pocket of the shorts. When riding in the lycra shorts and cycling shirt, phone goes in right jersey pocket.

I have a cycling wallet kind of thing that holds some money, copy of ID, keys, Chapstick, and my phone. And the whole thing goes in my jersey pocket.
If I'm commuting, the phone's in my backpack.

I got a nice heavy duty ziploc type wallet with my Lazer helmet. Works pretty well at keeping everything sealed up, and hardly bigger than the phone itself.

Mine is either in a baggy in my jersey pocket or zipped up inside a top tube bag. I think that is what you are calling a bento box. I guess your brother must have left his unzipped?

His Bento bag has a magnetic closure. I’m betting the phone is not going back in there.

I keep mine on my person. What if I am separated from the bike by a hit and run driver and end up in a roadside ditch too injured to get to the phone? Most of the jerseys I wear have separate zippered pocket on the left rear for the phone. I am not interested in Strava etc, so it’s not a problem.

I am not confident of the Quad Lock thing, it looks like a part of it needs to be glued to the back case of the phone.
I'm never confident of glued or chemical stuff.
I use a cheap Chinese waterproof phone holder like this:
But I replaced the cheap connector at the back with this.
And screwed this base plate onto the case:

Fanny pack with my Glock 43, 2 reloads and a Streamlight AAA flashlight.
It works for me.

I wear a Livall Helmet (livall.com) that has a microphone and speakers (as well as LED lighting including turn signals). The phone stays in its usual place on my belt.
The controls on the handlebar allow full device control and I use Android, so OK Google does all handsfree. I usually listen to music and have google maps on for oral directions when going to a new place. When riding with others, we connect the helmets like walkie-talkies so we can talk with each other at distance in a normal voice (no yelling), and although I have never tested it, if I fall over and do not move for 90 seconds it has an SOS alert that will call my family or emergency services.
While I could put the phone on the handlebar in front of me, there is no need. Phone calls, text reading messages, and Google Map oral instructions are perfectly adequate. Much safer to leave it in its magnetic clipped leather pouch.
PS: I am a customer, not associated with the company. Cost in NZ at Bikes and Barbers (the local ebike shop in my village) was NZ$200 when I bought it a year ago. Great accessory

I know your brother's frustration when you go back and retrace your steps meticulously to find the missing article as soon as you realise it's missing....as long as you go back immediately to the last place you had it, or thought it may have ejected from somewhere, you can reassure yourself that you did your best to locate it and that someone else must have picked it up if it's not there. I have found umpteen things (including tiny diamonds that popped out of a ring; earrings, specs (broken) by doing this. But also had the ?inconvenience/frustration of going back immediately - lost car keys/dogleash/shoe-icegripper etc - to find them gone. However, by attaching a label that has phone number or War Amps tag,https://www.waramps.ca/ways-we-help/key-tags/ I have usually got the item back by the kind scooper-upper!!
My phone - usually in rear side or middle pocket. I'll have to figure out a system though, as when I am in a foreign country biking, and pull it out with gloved fingers to check location or take a photo, it's easy for other things like specs or a small baggie to be dragged out with it unnoticed. I guess that's when a handlebar mount comes in handy, but I'm running out of landscape in the cockpit with a small frame and a bell and an Edge computer there already.
