Hi from California

Always enjoyed biking but I’m only now getting into road biking. Currently looking for an older steel frame road bike to ride along the beach and get into the hobby

Appreciate it, the amount of information here is daunting but I’m doing my best to try and soak it up bit by bit

Something that’d fit a 6 ft 190 pound guy. Steel frame 70’s or 80’s. Been down the craigslist/sales app rabbit hole for a bit just trying to see what’s out there. Trying to find the best I can get for the cheapest lol, still trying to figure out what I Like In A bike

OK Dan , I would say you could ride a 58cm to a 60cm . There is this bike called a Centurion Ironman . Father of the IM was the Comp TA , a cousin is the Turbo . I can recommend them . You should be able to pick up a nice one for 250.-350. on CL

this is my IM

Welcome Dan Smart choice start with a modest investment and see if you like it . Then you can always sell it to upgrade .

Those bikes are getting hard to find, and the nicer ones are demanding a premium, I see very few really choice ones on either SF or LA CL. They're getting trendy and overpriced here, like the Bridgestones did a few years back. I like this one, but they want 425, I would not pay that much.

What's a good Ironman substitute? Maybe a Lemond or a Specialized Allez?

Is a really good condition PX10 a smart choice?

Dan , I don't know the PX10 at all . Except people around here highly regard them and the price is fairly up there , so I would guess they are good . For me though I'm not ready to learn how to build a French bike .
Here is something to consider , what area are you located ?

Wow, that's nice for $200. Surprised it's been for sale 3 weeks. I should have done a search for "Iron Man"(two words).

Geeze. I just gave away a Dave Scott Ironman. It was left at my work. Nobody claimed it and I posted all over so I just gave it away. https://www.bikeforums.net/northern-...ound-bike.html

Welcome to BF!

Welcome to the forums, CalDan! Being a lover of old Peugeots, I can affirm that a PX10 is a fine bike, as long as it fits. You should ask in the Classic and Vintage forum; lots of info over there about it.
