Sorry for your loss. Losing friends is hard. Keep him or her in your memory, and reflect upon the good times.

Albemarle County - find the observatory!

Alfalfa harvest with vineyard further up the hill.

Univ of Virginia - Jefferson and his Rotunda

Edgar Allen Poe’s dorm room
After a week of night shifts, steady rain, and an upper respiratory infection, rewarded with spectacular weather here in Virginia today. Stiff breeze out today but seemed like it was all tailwind. One of those days!

Today was another of our many perfect spring days here in the Mid-Atlantic. Barely a breeze, perfect skies, sun, flowers and flowering trees, great scenery. It was 'boathouse' day as I rode from Oaks, PA to the SRT terminus in south Philadelphia near Christian Street, including the review of the University boat houses. 52 miles round trip and just a top drawer ride on the Raleigh Professional. Lucky ole fella. It looks like this retirement thing is catching on. Lots of old geezers like myself out spinning the cranks.

Sorta got the blues there in Conshohocken for a bit though (nuck, nuck, nuck....) That guy in the back was an Imperial Storm Trooper, guarding the Lincoln.

Excellent Lincoln Continental restoration.

After nearly 6 months of snow and mud some nice dry roads for a bit of lazy gravel grinding around Fariplay.

33 miles out to Rabelais Cajun Bakery and Restuarant in Santa Paula from Ventura, CA, riding my recently completed '78 Super Course. I'm really liking this bike, started out as a $20 CL find. It was a club ride with Channel Islands Bike Club. A couple of other steel touring bikes, but the Raleigh was the only oldie on the ride. After 3 days over 100°, a nice marine layer came in and brought in a little moisture and 60ish° weather, at least at the start. Good times.

My Raleigh, which started as a $20 project bike. I still need to get around to new bar wrap, sweet ride though.

Rabelais, a must stop in Santa Paula.

Too much good stuff. Decisions ...the brownie square won, followed by the macaroon in a photo finish.

Passed 500 miles total on my '81 Trek 710 yesterday

I'm planning on having a lot of work done to it once I finally get it configured exactly like I want it too.

Probably a couple hundred more miles to get things dialed in, and then it will likely get torn down and sent to a local(ish) framebuilder for some refinements and modifications.

Rode up the Paterberg today, in preparation of the Retroronde van Vlaanderen tomorrow. Short, but nasty. Had to walk the last bit.

I recently moved and now live in a great area to cycle, so it's motivated me to get back on the bike. The ride is on Signal Mountain, TN and the scenery is Red Bank and Hixson, TN below. Just north of Chattanooga.

Know Your Neighborhood Ride

I finally got out on the bike a couple days ago after 4 weeks of packing, moving, cleaning up the old house to sell, and unpacking. My new home in Point Reyes Station, California is less than 12 miles from the old one. I spent a fine couple hours enjoying some of the local trails.

This was actually yesterday. I had heard of a small chapel in a nearby village and wanted to go see it myself.

There it was. The village consists of maybe half a dozen houses around it.

Here's some clear-cut forest from alongside a trail on the return leg of the trip.

And here's a typical Finnish countryside gravel road.

On June 6, we were staying with my wife's newfound cousin in Kekkut, Hungary, way out in the countryside. He has spare bikes, so he told us to go take a ride.

It's a beautiful rural area, with all kinds of vegetation and crops and animals. It's near Lake Balaton, a resort area.

I rode the women's one-speed, and Carol rode the men's MTB.
