International Flights with Bikes to SE ASIA
How many is too many bikes to take on a trip with you..? We are heading off to Sri Lanka the end of this month for our winter home and will be there over 6 months this time. I plan on bringing 3 road bikes and my Trek Farley Fat Tire.. Yes I am aware we will be charged for all 4 of the bikes but things are getting out of hand with me taking bikes on trips and will end up just leaving them there ...You can get so much more in a SALSA FAT TIRE BOX and so long as it does not exceed 115 linear inches and 85lbs you are good to go... Seems like every year I go someone just has to have one of the bikes I bring so it goes for the right price plus I get to use it for a few miles... I always take brand new unused higher end road bikes ...

This topic shows my Tri All 3 Sports airline bicycle case. It provides outstanding protection and usability for airline cargo bicycle transportation.
This is the hard case I have SCICON AEROTECH and last fall I took it along with me on a trip to DUBAI, UAE and worked perfectly, only thing with these type of cases, I am not able to get huge amounts of extra bike goodies in it along with the bike..

Yes, that SCICON AeroTech Evolution X TSA Bike Travel Case is an excellent product that looks to provide great protection and usability for bicycle airline transportation.

If multiple bikes will be transported, then the Tri All 3 Sports Velo Safe II Pro Series case holds two road or mountain bicycles. This might be a good way to get more bicycles to the destination.

Do you need any special sort of padding/bubble wrap to protect LIGHTWEIGHT MEILENSTEIN WEISS EDITION wheels in a SCICON AEROTECH case? Asking for a friend who is planning a trip to BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, BRUNEI with as many as 6 UNUSED, FULL CARBON road bikes.

The "WEISS" Edition of the Meilensteins are 2nd tier Wheels in the lightweight Collection. Now if you would be asking me about the ones that I own, and those being "The SCHWARZ Collection" then I could answer you with a yes on special hand made carry bags for each wheel with appropriate matching serial numbers..If one is to buy Lightweight Wheel, I would always suggest the SCHWARZ Ceramic bearing collection...

I misspoke, my apologies. My friend is not interested in, nor does he own, anything from the "2nd tier" of any collection, wheels or otherwise. He actually owns all 99 pairs of the limited edition LIGHTWEIGHT MEISTERWERKE OBERMAYER GOLD wheels. These are clearly Hors Tier ("beyond tier"), and far superior even to your SCHWARZ COLLECTION wheels, which are merely 1st Tier.

Off to Sri lanka soon
As our trip to Sri Lanka and the Maldive Islands draws very near (end of the week) I find myself with even more luggage and bicycle and wheel carriers then the year before. I swear I am not going to take so many thing and by the time it is ready to go, I am way over weight, way over luggage and way to many bikes that I carry. These large 115 Linear Inch SALSA Bike Boxes can be loaded with tons of stuff besides the actual bike. One of them has a trek Madone plus a set of Zipp 858 NSW's plus all kinds of other things to boot. You can max the box out at 100lbs on Delta International to SE Asia destinations..

Not to create thread drift, but I'm really curious why you are taking so many bikes and other stuff. I get six months requires more than 6 days, but not necessarily more than 14 days, given you'll be doing laundry and likely even buying some clothes and such while there . . .
