Milwaukee vs. Planet X
I am considering two bikes...The Milwaukee Bicycle Company Orange One (made by Waterford) and the Planet X Kaffenback. I used to ride mountain bikes. Then I moved to my current home of lovely Philadelphia, sold my mountain bike and bought an old school Benotto road bike. I loved that, but ended up breaking the frame so now I need a new bike. I want something inbetween the two. I want something that rides like a road bike when I'm cruising around the city, but that I can take to the trails of Fairmount park when I want. I don't plan on doing any racing, and probably won't be doing much wet weather trail riding so I think both will have adequate tire clearance. I will probably use it to weave in and out of traffic 90% of the time, and go out on the trails 10%. The planet X can be geared, but I would probably build them both up as a singlespeed anyway. The planet X is a good bit cheaper for the frame/fork, but I am more attracted to the Milwaukee. I'm a sucker for good looks and I like the Mil's aesthetics more and the fact that it is hand made here in the US. Thoughts? Opinions?

Personally, I like the Gunnar/Waterford/Milwaukee. But it's a single speed. They really aren't comparable. If the Milwaukee could accept derailleurs, I'd take it in a heart beat. Good luck

I don't know the exact relationship but the Planet X is very similar to my On One Il Pompino that I love. That being said, I'd prefer the Milwaukee, mostly because of the Waterford background. You can't go wrong w/ that. Granted, you'll be "stuck" w/ an SS/fixie, but that's not a bad thing.

Go done to Bicycle Threaphy on South St. and talk to Lee or Jose.....If you want a Single speed CX bike, go look at the Bianchi San Jose, I have one and they rock for the city riding. Otherwise they do have a good line of cross frames to choose from.
The Ridley Crossbow is a great frame also......I'm still building mine.

Actually I'm not in philly for now. Bicycle therapy is halfway around the world now. I'll be moving back in June. I think I will probably end up going with the Milwaukee. Unless something pops up on ebay I prefer.
