Bought new bike - question about switching to disc brakes

Hey all, first post here! I bought a new Schwinn Graft Pro bike from Canadian Tire and loving it so far. Just got it tuned at a bike shop. It has disc brakes on the from and the brake pads on the rear. Is it possible to switch the rear brakes to disc? Any idea how much a bike shop would charge? Or should I stick with what I got?

I would stay with what you have. Most of your braking power comes from your front brakes. Running rim brakes in the rear doesn't really put you at any disadvantage.

I googled your bike. The photos make it look like there might be a disk brake mount at the back of your frame. Hard to tell, because the photos are taken from the right side of the bike.

It is likely that your hub is not a disk hub. Look to see whether you have a mount on the left of your rear hub having six screw holes arranged in a circle. If you have that mount, then you can put a disk on the wheel. Otherwise, you'll need a new wheel, plus the brakes, plus you'll need to run new brake cable, plus you'll need to pay someone to do that for you.

You just bought the bike. Honestly, I'd ride it as it is.

It has two screws to mount the disc brake but there is no places for six screws. But there is space between the wheel and the frame so maybe they could add something so that I wouldn't need a new wheel.

You'd need a new wheel. Throwing out some estimated numbers, you might spend $100ish for the wheel, $50ish for an Avid BB7 brake kit, $40ish for labor. I agree with JG that it's not that beneficial, so I'd just run the rear V-brake.

i agree with everyone. it is not worth the money to upgrade it. i have disk brakes in the front and rim brakes in the back on my bike and the rim brakes work great as long as they are dry but if it was pouring rain they suck. the disk brakes in the front is all you really need. mine seem to stop my bike with my trailer behind it with not a problem.

currently the have the Schwinn Graft Pro bike on sale at Canadian tire. maybe if you still know where the receipt is you could take it in and see if it is not too late to get the difference between what you paid for it and what it is currently on sale for.
