The veloce works. I would stay clear of anything by Origin 8.
~~But why would you be willing to compromise when you clearly haven't with the crankset?

Has to be record!

You've got a good point, although I was looking to purchase a phil wood bottom bracket and don't want to invest too much if I go that route.

You can't go wrong that way either. Just be sure to use the blue loctite threadlocker that's included with it. From 1st hand experience they like to vibrate their way out.

Another quality but expensive option is this: https://www.compasscycle.com/bb_SKFBRC_iso.html

Velomine gave me a quite reasonable quote on a phil bb, so that is what I ended up getting for my pista crank.

Thank you! Now I have something else to consider when I have the money for a proper bottom bracket.

I find them to be too flexy, but I've only used them on geared bikes.

In a drivetrain the BB spindle is the least likely to flex.

It's most likely used. A philwood BB due to the non - attached cups can be easily cleaned and polished and called new considering it rarely sees the light of day inside a BB shell.

And because all light* crank materials are definitely made of a softer metal, if installed correctly, there shouldn't be impressions on the BB spindle but vice versa.

Interesting, so this isn't really worth my time. Thanks once again for your help everyone!

Well $120 is a decent price for used nonetheless. And there's nothing wrong with used. I would try* to talk him down to make the deal better considering you still need ~$40 for the cups if they're not included and a philwood BB splined tool if you are a DIYer. Don't forget to buy loctite blue threadlocker for reasons I mentioned beforehand.
What you should be concerned about is whether that is indeed a titanium spindle and not a stainless one as philwood's design for BBs is homogeneous. Use a magnet to test, Ti is not magnetic.

For what it's worth, I highly doubt that Phil BB has ever seen a crank arm or frame. It looks like it just came out of the machine. You'd at least find marring on the spindle tips from the removal process and quite probably traces of crank material.

That Compass Cycle piece is quite appealing, mostly because I'm a sucker for "made in Germany." If only the price tag wasn't quite so crazy...

Not all Stainless steel is magnetic, so that may not be a definitive test. Unfortunately I don't have a better test aside from weight difference.

Speaking from actual experience with Ti square taper BBs, I can tell you that this is where flex becomes a problem in drivetrains.

A crank arm that flexes slightly could go un noticed, but a BB spindle that flexes will cause chain rub on the front derailleur. It was quite noticeable on my Colnago when I used a Ti Phil BB, but went away when I replaced it with a Stainless Phil BB.

I'm gonna try to talk him down, considering he has the box, it looks fairly new and he has the invoice from Phil Wood it may be worth the plunge considering how few options I have in Canada.

How does living in Canada limit your options?

Well not necessarily all of Canada, but Toronto specifically. All of our LBS have exuberant prices for just about everything and half of them try to rip you off even more if they find out you are buying/riding a fixed gear.

I would grab up that Phil in a heartbeat myself, unless you're a clyde. I agree, it certainly looks to be both ti and new. If so, price is very fair, especially if it includes the cups/tool. Is the taper right?

Otherwise, there is no option beyond the matching Record BB. Nothing.

No cups or tool, I turned him down. I'm heading out to a LBS that carries the Campagnolo Veloce BB to see if it is compatible.

Not to derail too much, but you really should start a new thread for a new question. It helps keep the search tool useful. Anyone else with the same question you first asked will not find this thread if they search for it.
