Jamis Sputnik 2010 vs 2011?

Looking at getting my first singlespeed/fixie, and have been looking at getting a previous year Sputnik. For some reason the 2010 models seem to be more expensive than the 2011, any reason for that? Anothing bike I've been looking at is the Trek Earl. I used to ride BMX bikes when I was younger so feel like I might be very comfortable with the components on that one. Anyone have any opinions it?

Lesser quality frame material at a glance.
Reynolds 520 instead of 631
Both nice though.

Edit: also worse tires. Zaffiros instead of Rubino's

Also, the 2010 is a Maxway-produced frame. The 2011 is not (although the dropouts do look similar).

Does anyone else have any first hand experience between the Sputnik 2006-2011 Reynolds-631 frame vs. the revised Reynolds-520 2011-2013 frame?

It's not just the frame, but up until 2009, Sputniks had carbon forks, too. If you're going to go pre-2012, then you might as well go for the 2009 or below. I have the 2012 and it's actually my favorite bike; the ride quality was great even with just stock parts. I actually am very hesitant with buying a new frame because I love it so much.

I am replacing my 2006 Sputnik frame and the only ones available are 2013. I don't care about the rest. I assume I can move the carbon fork over.

I am trying to figure out if I'll be disappointed moving from 2006 to 2013 frame or if I won't notice. I will be pushing it hard vs. a casual ride.

If you search my posts, you'll see my many raves about the 631 Maxway. It's very nice. Can't speak to the later version, but I heartily recommend the earlier ones.

I've been told in PM that the 2013 frame is inferior to the 2006. I am curious in what ways.

This is the crack in my 2006 frame that will be replaced under warranty

It would be pretty hard to tell the difference between 631 and 520. The 520 would be a little bit heavier, which would probably make it less crack prone.

Are there any construction differences between the frames or outside of the tube grades are they the same?

the crack is from fatigue

Unless you're extremely heavy or you're a weight weenie, you are thinking way too hard about this. In all likelyhood, you probably will not be able to tell the difference in ride quality between the two steels, given the same components and geometry. Maybe a small weight difference, but that's it.

Tensile strength is essentially the same, as is density. biggest difference is that 631 is air-hardening (making weld areas stronger), which is a significant improvement for TIGd frames. Not that this broken frame would attest to that. It would also appear that 520 is made *for* Reynolds and not by them, if that means anything.
