Nope and it happens all the time.

$6,200 Hi-mod Supersix Di2, but it gets called crap because it is "plastic". but call their steel frame names and they will get offended and report you.

but then I also ride a $280 single speed, and people in Life are like Nice bike!!!

The lesson here, people are clueless. just do your thing!

BTW wal-mart bikes are junk, but.. I call them "clunkers" and clunkers are fun too ride too.

Out in the real world, I've never had a single person make a disparaging remark about any bike I've ever owned, dating back to adolescence.

The internet, on the other hand, has a way of making people real bold. A guy in the old Hot or Not thread called my KHS (may she RIP) the "worst looking bike (he'd) ever seen."

Human beings can be the worst. Many of the "people" on the internet barely even qualify as human.

Why would I care what a moron says about my bike? And, by definition, anyone who would call my bike "a piece of crap" is a moron.

So, no, I couldn't care less what someone else thinks of my bike.

Years ago I had just bought a middling steel frame - my first "decent" frame. It was sitting on the counter in the shop while the shop guy was doing something. Another customer stopped, and not realizing that I had just bought it, picked it up and remarked to me "It's pretty heavy". I replied with something along the lines of "Yeah, but it'll do for now". He realizes that the frame's mine, and gets really apologetic about dissing it (although he was correct about its heft). I quickly set him straight - no offense intended, none taken. In any case, it was way lighter than the anchors I had ridden up to this point, but I couldn't understand why he thought I would be offended - it's not like I had built the frame - I was just buying it.
I've had people (bike folk and "civilians") comment on how pretty that bike was, but I think that was mainly the color (Ice Blue De Bernardi). A few people have commented on the Litespeed, but its bare metal is too "industrial" to be called pretty, and it's too low-tech for bike folk to get excited about it. No-one's ever disparaged one of my bikes, but it wouldn't bother me if they did - I know my bikes are cool.

Yes, I was offended then I kicked the snot out of the guy on his $5,000 bike (back in 1996).

I was fairly new to cycling but was doing some mad training on hills and mountain roads. Repeats around Raging Waters in San Dimas for the locals and long 40 mile ride on the weekends climbing GMR, again for the locals.

I was riding a standard double 53/39-13/26 7 speed. No problem climbing steep Baldy Rd, again for the locals. I had a grey alum Trek RSX equipped low end bike about $500, down tube shifters. I removed the purple TREK stickers cause I got tired of the color. So the bike was all grey.

One weekend I rode on a flat trail to the coast. I was feeling pretty good when I ran up on a guy. I said hello then he started to chat. He said I was doing pretty good and that my titanium bike must be a good ride. Oh no, this is aluminum. Actually a Trek but I ripped the stickers off.

Trek, Oh I see! I would never ride an off the shelf piece of crap like that!

The he went on to brag about how good his bike was, back then in 1996, $2000 Cinelli frame, $1000 drivetrain, expensive wheels, blah blah blah!

Yeah I was offended so I said, well it's not about the bike then I kicked the snot out of him while he tried to hold my wheel. Didn't last more than 1/4 mile!

Yeah, I was offended!

Hasn't happened to me (yet), but I'd like to think I have thicker skin than to take real offense over a total stanger's comment about a bike I'm riding.

+1

Never, in real life, have I had anyone make a negative remark about my bicycles. I've been asked about some, and people have complimented them, but never negative.

The internet, on the other hand ... doesn't count.

Actually ... even on the internet no one has said anything negative about my bicycles.

All bikes are cool. Especially if they are in working order. I used to just like mountain bikes. Then I got a gravel bike and really liked it. Now all kinds of bikes are cool.

Everyone will think that it is an insult.
Reject such malice.
What have you experienced?
People who say such words should live an extremely unhappy life.

If someone disparaged my bike(s) on the internet, no. The internet is a place where people who aren't courageous enough to say what they think face to face get to recreate and "resolve" all their unresolved conflicts of a life time.

No.

On two occasions, when I owned a Bridgestone RB-1, knowledgeable cyclists admired it, and informed me it was a classic. My other three current bikes have been well-regarded on Bike Forums.

Non-cycling acquaintances (perhaps clueless, but not morons) usually just say, “Nice bike.”

Oddly enough, no. I had a couple guys at work ask about my 1988 Panasonic commuter, with original paint and rust, and ask how much it cost me. It is funny to see reactions when you say $35, before saying a thing about upgrades. Counting $100 in tires and a rim upgrade, I still barely have $400 into it.

The other day, while riding my SS commuter bike home from work, a couple kids went by and one yelled "My bike is better than yours!"

Naturally, I turned around, chased them down, and gave that adolescent d-bag a good beating right there on the roadside. I simply can't tolerate that sort of insult.

My friend and riding buddy tells me my bike is a piece of crap all the time. But, then again, he's not so smart. He wasted his money on a Specialized.

Personally, I don't care what people say. Not everyone can afford a high end bike with all the bells and whistles. It's your bike and if you like and enjoy it, that's all that matters.
