20" (451) tire for sand / packed gravel
Looking for 20" (406) tire recommendations (1.75 - 2.00 inches wide) for riding on fine gravel and dirt roads and loosely packed sand trails.

You noted both 451 and 406 above, what size are you actually looking for?

On yer bike
I guess it depends on your comfort level and how much outside tread you're looking for. I'd feel fine doing what you described on Schwable Marathons or Big Apple/Ben. But if you're looking for more knobs, then Maxxis has some good options.

These tires are inexpensive, have kevlar for puncture protection, and a decent tread for on or moderate off the beaten path riding. I have them on my Dahon Speed P8: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Bell-Spor...8aAlC1EALw_wcB

When I was taking my Pocket Rocket out to Arizona in the Winter I was using 451 BMX tires and they held up and worked fine on the bike. Don't remember name but got them though Quality Bicycle which almost any dealer can order from. Only complaint would have been they were a bit heavy compared to the road tires I normally used. Roger

Thanks for the suggestion. I was looking for something inexpensive like that since most of the time I'm not riding on sand and gravel.

They're a decent beater tire. They should be fine for your multi condition usage.

I like the Maxxis Holy Rollers and often like the Kenda KRad
.
(one bad batch of Krads wouldn't hold to 406 rims somehow)
They are very similar
