Holy Happy Birthday, New Ride!

Here she is. Not properly set up yet, just got her together. I'm a roadie so I just need to learn how to ride her.

Thanks guys. I think I'm going to save these tires for next spring and get some winter tires, so I haven't even Stan's-ed them and ridden it yet. Booo.

WHAT? NO ride YET? I find this so discouraging. A "Great Scott" and no action shots yet............

Exactly what I was thinking. I probably would have literally jumped on it and ridden it out the front door, down the front steps, and off to the trails!!!! (just tuned it as I went )

That's one sweet starter bike. Learning to MTB involves a bit of crashing here and there...hopefully that bike will survive.

I finally got out today. Didn't use sealant and it held for an easy 90 minute ride, flat trails. Great ride, surprisingly smooth for a hard tail (26psi front, 29psi rear). I have to get used to the big tires, a little wallowy compared to even CX, but good traction overall. My hands started to hurt and I was thinking of lowering the compression, then I realized I had the damn lock-out still on. Oy! Damn fun ride. Remote lock-out is outstanding. I need to position the cockpit a little better but very pleased.

I'm hoping all the CX crashing I'm doing will give me a "leg-up" on the mtb crashing.

At least post a picture where you scrapped your shin, tore up a shirt or something!

lol, OK Das, it's not much but this is the best I have. Went out with normal bike shorts on, along with knee warmers. What do you do to avoid these? And thank god my daughter didn't ask "Why are you taking a picture of your legs?" Come to think of it, she didn't even ask "What happened?".

What the heck did you do? I sometimes end a ride looking like I took a meat tenderizer to my shins, and I've smacked the back of my calves with the pedals once or twice before, but dude, what is that? Did you ride through sticker bushes or something?

Sticker bushes on my mtb ride lol. I found a horse trail and it looked pretty good, ... at the beginning. Unfortunately, it was fairly overgrown at various points and, well, to be honest, who the hell wants to slow down. Bad call.

When I race CX, all I do is fracture my collarbone, a rib, and do a lot of soft tissue shoulder damage (1 bad fall did all that). Been out for 4 weeks now. Will hopefully be back racing next weekend.

Yeah, I don't think many MTB'ers who have done some amount of trail riding DON'T have a collection of wounds new and old. I gots some ol' divots on my right leg that are all spaced apart 1/2".

True, I have 4 scars that are each about 1/4" apart that are about 4" long from a time that my foot slipped off the pedal on a climb and the pedal came around and dug into the back of my leg. Have had that scar for close to 4 years. Just this summer I added one to my hand that goes from my pinky all the way down to the lower part of my palm (I now always were gloves while riding ). I look at all my scars as stories and conversation starters .
