Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The seat post is called a seat post because it is inserted in the seat tube. Duh.

I'm quoting this to bring to everyone's attention that this was a seat post tube post.

If it's called a saddle, then why are the 2 rear pieces called seat stays?

Nope. Not a compound adjective preceding a noun.

Because it's conceivable one could put any kind of seat on the seat post, but it just happens that the only kind anyone puts on it is a saddle.

How come an 8-speed cassette is called a cassette and not an 8-Track?

We have:
Threadless,
Clipless,
Wireless,
Tubeless...

If they keep taking stuff away, one day we're going to be bikeless!

Just be sure and wear your bibs, so you don't get a grease stain from your turkey levers!

Well for it to be a seat, it would need to have legs as well. The entirety of a bike combined can be a seat since you can sit on it.
