Very cool. It is interesting to see adds from our major purchases from the past. I remember stereo ads, and sporting goods ads. I’ve seen catalog ads posted of the 24” Sears 5 speed Spyder I bought as a 14 year old.

I remember those ads in the late '80s when I was shopping for a mountain bike. I ended up getting a Rockhopper Comp, but did take a serious look at the Access bikes before I bought the Specialized.

Man, I remember the SuperGo store in Santa Monica. I nearly bought a Yokota there, and remember looking at ParkPre, too. Ended up with a Specialized from Helen's.

I also have a Comp model, exact 19" size and blue color as the one pictured.
It's just 6s Uniglide as are all of the pre-1989 models. 1989 was the first year for HG (and for any 7s Shimano mtb stuff).

Mine has the rear U-brake, which tends to be a very hard place to retrieve a trapped (chain suck) chain from.

It's a great bike, the head tube is set at a relaxed 70-degrees, making me wonder how well it would or wouldn't handle with road bars, STI and long stem while riding off of the saddle(?).

Thanks for posting. I worked for Al and Suzy Goldsmith at the original Bikecology from 1972 to 1974, while a grad student at UCLA. I worked Friday nights and all day Saturdays, plus holidays, on bicycle assembly, setup, and repairs, mainly in the original Bekins building storefront in Santa Monica, later in Pacific Palisades, Culver City, and Marina del Rey. "Big Al" was just getting into the catalog-based mail order business at that time. I still have a Bikecology sticker on my UO-8.
