Joiner Bicycle Co. Handmade Titanium Frame

Just wanted to share this - been looking for a new frame for quite some time and I think this is it. It looks even better in person.

Nice looking frame, tire clearance is a little ridiculous.

Why is it ridiculous, considering it’s meant to be a road bike ? What I find ridiculous is putting a cheap All City (Andel) crankset on a frame of that caliber.

Hey now I run an All-City crankset on my Pake and i'ts plenty nice

I guess I'm in the minority I run 25c or larger on the road, maybe my roads are less pristine than those in Canada.

Sure, and I run Andels on my Leaders, VISP and Dolan Pre Cursa, but I sure won’t put them on my nicer frames. To put anything but the best on a Ti frame is nothing short of sacrilegious.

Not at all. 25s are pretty much the standard for road bikes now, and even the majority of the pro peloton is on them. Many recreational riders opt for 28s.

I don't know what they even mean with that tire clearance figure. You can clearly see extra clearance in both the front and rear in the photos on their website. The sliding dropouts strike me as over-engineered and gimmicky, and are probably a pain in the ass to deal with in real life. It's pretty, but I wouldn't buy one.

Are you looking at the Pursuit model or the Fixed model? The fixed claims room for 38s.

Yeah the sliding dropouts are pointless.

Was looking at the pursuit. Specs state tire clearance is 20mm, which is generally ridiculous, and most likely wrong if the photos are anything to go by.

.. The dropouts look like it would make it easier to remove the rear wheel when needed.

Maybe, but if you want to move it forward or backward to facilitate a gearing change, you have...what, 4 extra bolts and 2 nuts to deal with? No thanks.

I see it opposite. The extra time it would take to secure the wheel would be worth it to me for a wheel that can be adjusted extremely accurately and will never slip. Different strokes

Because that can't be done with track nuts.

Why would you want to use only two nuts to accurately position and secure the axle when instead you could use four bolts, two nuts, two adjustment shafts, and two lock nuts? You make no sense at all.

Lol... Just when I thought I'd found the perfect frame.

Also funny enough the guy at the spring bike show was saying something about the setup yielding or allowing for extra torque, assuming he meant this somehow translates into better power transfer. That I also failed to understand..

Are there frames that are not handmade?

You didn't fail a damn thing. That claim is utter hogwash.

If you don't change gearing frequently, I could see some benefit to the dropouts. Wheel changes become just as quick as those with vertical dropouts, because that's essentially what you have. And then you could use a quick-release hub with no worries.

Any chance the "20mm" tire clearance spec means between the intended tire and the rest of the frame?

Agreed on that but they still don't look as good on a track frame.

I would hope 20mm is tire and frame but alas I see really stupid stuff these days with tire clearance because some people just having gotten all the facts yet about wider tires being all around better.

Also found this one - Unknown will custom make this frame for you based on measurements you send..thinking this may be a better option. It has a more classic look, it's less 'low' and it has very nice, normal dropouts and a non-tapered head tube.

It honestly looks really sick. But I haven't rode a tire smaller than like 28mm in like 5 years, I couldn't ride 20mm. "The Shibuya Is A High Performance Urban Racing Bike Which Can Handle Any Terrain The City Throws At It. Titanium Is Optimal For Reducing Vibration Providing A Super Smooth, Nimble Ride Quality" I feel like the clearance has to be wider than that if they expect it to handle "city terrain smoothly."
