80s LOOK Carbon Fiber frames good?
Hey! Found a LOOK KG96 Team Replica Carbon Frame in my size. I've only ridden steel bikes. Wanted to see if anyone had insight to whether carbon fiber was a good move or not?
Thanks!
Thanks!

no, pass it over here.
Probably not as a daily rider, and needs to be checked over verrry carefully(guess how I know) but otherwise sure. just don't think its sturdy like steel.
Cheers, Eric

Condition is everything on that particular approach to carbon in frames, at that time.
Look it over very carefully. It's not a steel bike and wasn't meant to be.
I have no idea if the producers of those "tube into lug" frames were thinking 30-35 years for frame life.
Who knew? I've had several, not the Look, and the Giant Cadex CFR-1 is really the best of those I've had.
I have a carbon Look, but it's the "next generation" after that, and heavy, and weird.
At least Look used imagination.

I don't want to say a thing for sure, but Giant Cadexes and Trek 2100s were popular enough that if there was an epidemic of their bonds failing, we'd probably know by now.

there was a poor guy in the silicon valley area that had that frame (+components/wheels) stolen about 3 weeks ago from his workplace.
totally different sizing tho...

beautiful frame. i've been enjoying a look kg 131 frame that i purchased in february and built up. there were a couple linked look frames such as this:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/LOOK-KG-261...75.c100623.m-1
i woulda bought that now like yday but already have a covid-19 quarantine build and zero room to store. timing is everything.

your post/frame looks nice but seems a little pricey given the age and scratches/nicks on the frame. twere it pristine without any scratches.paint nicks...then absolutely.
if you're completely in love with that exact frame...maybe $500-550. there weren't all that many look frames for sale recently but it would appear that there will be as the times
we're experiencing continue. unless the price drops substantially, i'd steer clear and keep an eye on that market 2-3x a week.

Hi AVC,
I`m fortunate enough to have an early `86 TVT La Vie Claire replica set up with full campy c-record on 26 spoke Ambrosios - I can say its a very good frame if you like a spirited ride. Its suprisingly stiff, very smooth but can feel a little heavy. Geometry is spot on as you would expect for Tour De France winning design. Don`t shoot me but I would say a slightly younger steel Bianchi SLX rides just a little better...
***CAUTION*** The alloy lugs can come unglued from the alloy lugs - water/sweat gets into the joint and you get electrolitic corrosion and then the glue fails. Look for ally corrosion carefully around the joints - also, when riding, listen for weird creaks - thats movement in a joint. I believe a specialist can fix this but dont try and do it yourself - there have been examples of total frame failures in the past, though usually on frames that have been heavily ridden for years.
Early Vitus forks can also fail but thats rare - yours would have the stringer latter forks.
I liked my TVT so much I then tracked down an ex Cofidis Look 595 (last of the Look lugged carbon frames) and that is exceptional if a little harsh on bad road surfaces.
Price wise, they are never cheap unless bad, though money does not guarantee condition.
Thanks, Dan.
