Your opinion on backpack covers

Hump Original Waterproof Rucsac Cover | Chain Reaction Cycles

I currently use a vest which goes over both the backpack and myself, which I find to be a bit cumbersome, but it is well reflected front, back, and side. I know I'd be giving up some reflectivity with it the material just on the back with one of these.

What say you?

That thing looks like way more than you need. My backpack was $40 and came with its own rain cover. But you probably like the bag you have and don't want to replace the whole thing. I say you should shop around for something cheaper.

There is one on eBay for a third of the price, which to me is reasonable. I don't need it to keep the rain off; I need it for the reflectivity.

If you're not concerned about rain, maybe some kind of reflective strip would be better? Something you could tie or stick on to the bag. But if you found a $10 cover with some reflective material then that sounds pretty good too.

MEC Pack Rain Cover (Silicone) (Unisex) - Mountain Equipment Co-op. Free Shipping Available

I have that, I used to keep my sons rear seat dry. It is a nice color and I think I could add iron on reflective accents.

But this looks awesome.

Proviz Reflect 360 Pack Rain Cover (Unisex) - Mountain Equipment Co-op. Free Shipping Available

And it is from MEC and they will take it back if you're not satisfied.

My backpack has to cover itself. If I'm worried about a deluge soaking the contents I borrow a garbage bag and repack the contents.

The Hump is Hideous because they felt a need to paste the brand name on it in big Letters.

Ortlieb has a Welded seam PVC Backpack line.. the material will take SOLAS reflective tape stuck onto it.

https://www.ortlieb.com/en/produkt-d...ssenger%20bags

Note : the Messenger bag Pro adds a clear window pocket on the back,

you can insert a piece made up of bright colored and Reflective materials There..
like Your Amish Buggy triangle, to warn of slow vehicles , ahead.

I'm fine with the backpacks I am currently using, and now that I've been riding with a reflective vest I feel like I need to continue to use it. But sometimes I need to get something from the bag or to take off a layer under my jacket, and that's a hassle to do--first, off comes the vest, then the bag, then get the bag back on, then the vest again. Then I discover I need something else from the bag, so gotta do it again. Or sometimes even just to check if I'd zipped the front pocket of the bag because I don't want my wallet and phone falling out while I'm riding,..well, you get the picture.

A reflective cover that goes over just the bag would make it much, much easier.

If the one you link fits nicely then get it. Until you find one get a compactor trash bag and keep it in your pack. You can use it as a liner (things inside it) and it will keep your items dry. Pack will get wet but the important things are dry.

I have a pack cover for my backpack for hiking but until I got what I wanted I used the trash bag trick. I use the trash compactor version because it's tough.

If it's going to rain I pack my stuff inside plastic grocery bags before stuffing the backpack. Nearly free, works every time.

The pack cover does seem nice just for the added function of keeping your stuff dry (or drier) should it happen to rain. But since your primary and seemingly only concern is to boost visibility, I do like to recommend lightweights reflective products. As the name implies, they are super light reflective stickers (3M product) that can be applied to virtually anything, even fabrics. They very inexpensive. I have been using them for several years now and am very happy with them. They reflect a remarkable amount of light back towards the source. I'm sure they can be found elsewhere but I got mine at REI.

I rack my pack on two of my bikes and carry a coupla kitchen trash bags to cover the backpack in the rain. My racked bikes have reflectors on the back fender, plus I wear a reflective vest, plus each bike has a rear blinky with integratedf reflector, and my helmet has a rear reflector and I wear a 5-LED blinky on the back of my helmet. I put the backpack in the bag with the opening to the bottom. After a couple-three uses I replace the bag.
When I'm on my old fenderless, rackless road bike, and I'm wearing the backpack, I cover it with the trash bag with the opening towards me. I realize it doesn't cover much, but it covers the top and back enough, and I carry a reflective sash to put over it, although my roadbike also has a rear blinky, reflective tape on the seat stays and seat tube, and I have the helmet with its relectors and lights. But as the roadie isn't my main bike anymore, and if there is a chance of rain I leave it home, this isn't an issue for me often anymore.

High visibility reflective belts can be wrapped around backpack, or anything else. Plentyof examples on this site:
