UCI doesn't recognize Junior hour records. For junior they only track records for Junior men: F200, 500m, 1km, Team Sprint, 3km pursuit, 4km team pursuit; and Junior Women: F200, 500m, team sprint, 2km pursuit, and 4km team pursuit.

I don't really see the point of a Junior Hour Record. The Hour has always been a test to compare the most elite riders. Junior performances are not always telling of future success.

Here are the only records that USA Cycling keeps (Elites, Juniors, then Masters):

USA Cycling National Records - USA Cycling

There is no mention of Junior Hour records.

For an event to be a candidate for a National record, it as to be officiated in the proper manner with USA Cycling or UCI officials, bike check, and doping control. If you are gonna do it, I'd contact USA Cycling to see what the process is and if they would honor such a record if set. You may have to pay the officials.

Often, such record attempts are done around bigger events. I once heard of an Hour record attempt being held early morning during Masters Nationals week in Colorado springs because all of the officials were in the area for Nationals as well as doping control. I think it happened before the track opened for open track one morning.

But, as Taras said, they may not even recognize the record. Notice that Marty Nothstein holds the men's standing 500m record (26.496"...nuts) But, I haven't seen an attempt at that record in a long time. Hoy set the world record in 2009, though (24.758" ...jeez).

But, note that Hoy was there to set the Kilo WR and failed but while he was there, he did the 500M because all of the staff were on hand.

Tell me about it.

Low 30 seconds is world class for women. To be 10 seconds (29%) faster is amazing. The amount of energy expended is unbelievable.

I consider 34 seconds to be world class for me Unfortunately I'm not there yet, 35 seconds is still my goal.

For the junior hour record, I think it would kind of be futile as juniors are on restricted gears. It then just becomes a matter of how high you can get your cadence and how long you can keep it there. When you get out of the juniors, a lot more strategy comes into it as you have unrestricted gears as you have the balance of power, gear size and cadence.

I've done 36" before. I'd love to get to 35 as well...at 40+

For me, power isn't the problem. CdA (frontal area that pushes against the air) is my problem. I'm a rolling refrigerator.

A few have had a crack at the 500 over the years. Gord Singleton is the only cyclist to simultaneously hold the 200m, 500m, and 1000m records. He got them all in a 24 hour period too!

200m flying start - 10.58s;
500m flying start - 27.31s;
1000m standing start - 1.03.8s

All done on steel, spokes, and drop bars!

I have compiled a list of Hour records and hour performances across all age groups, including the ones you mention. It’s a GoogleSheets file. [EDIT: sorry being a new member here I’m unable to post links until after 10 posts! I’m finding out]

I think maybe its been missed here but the hoy record was flying, womens low 30s (32.2) is standing, their wr for flying is 28s odd. Hoogland hit just sub 30s on his kilo WR ride on 126"!!!
