8 years ago I drove 550mi round trip to buy a ‘77 Colnago Super. Restored it within 2 weeks and been enjoying it ever since.

Last year I drove to Portland Oregon from Peoria Illinois to drop off a frameset for gugie to butcher. Not sure that counts but it's like a whole new bike now. Of course Sarah and I camped, hiked and rode bikes everywhere along the way. Portland was definitely a highlight.

I drove a couple of hours each way once to meet horatio, who I think drove even further to meetup. It was for a complete Colnago Super and Basso Gap frame. Both great bikes. I sold the Super back to Horace (mailed it this time as I live further away) last year and thinking about selling the Gap so I can go on more bike buying adventures.

I have driven 6-8 hours round trip several times to get bikes... and made a 15 hour drive over two days to do a trade and buy that involved me trading a 2nd year Stumpjumper and cash for a 1972 Alex Singer (mostly complete, with some extra parts and swag, plus the bonus of a great hour and a half enjoying bike geek conversation in the seller's basement) and an Eisentraut Limited frame set, and I'd do a it again tomorrow if a similar opportunity arose ... sometimes you just have to do it... and since I ride my bike the few miles to work when else am I going to have the chance to catch up on my podcast listening?

I haven’t done near what some of you guys have done . Once I drove a couple of hours north for an original unridden 1977 Raleigh Competition GS, the other time was quite a bit worse, almost three hours each way in L.A. traffic to get a Windsor Profesional that I had been contemplating for over a month. I still have both bikes , both worth the drive! I did drive 45 minutes each way for a $15 Campagnolo NR RD. I came home with the derailleur , a set of wheels with Record HF hubs, and two medium sized boxes of parts . I spent a total of $55 . The boxes had some real gems( lots of Campy tools , etc,) inside and were free for buying the wheels for $40…….for the set!

I just drove 3,300 miles from Phoenix to Seattle and bought 3 tires at Recycled Cycles. OK, that wasn't the whole purpose of the trip (I was managing a 3-day national meeting in downtown Tacoma), but it was a plus to find discontinued but still useful pre-owned tires wherever I might find them.
At the beginning of August I have a meeting in the Los Angeles metro area. I may plan to visit several of the co-ops in the area and say hi, and see what interesting stuff they have. The meeting is on a Thursday, so that should work well with the Wed PM / Thu PM hours of some of the places.

Drove about 450 miles from the UP of MI to northern IL to pick up my 75 Moto GJ Mixte. The bike purchase had already been done courtesy of a friendly bike forums facilitator, so it was relatively low stress.

I haven't done much driving , the guy that bought my Bianchi drove 100mi one way . I have kept in touch with Jim he has bought a few more interesting bikes since he bought the Bianchi a year ago . He got a Harry Quinn a Ron Kitchings Krono and a Cucchietti . I'm trying to get him to join here .

A bike purchased again about a mile away, but the buyer drove from Boston to northern Baltimore County to buy it from me.....I paid $40, he paid $350. It was his offer which I accepted. I had a difficult time flipping this for a good price 15 years ago. I was selling bikes like hot cakes back then. Odd.

Well, y'all made me feel much more sane. Here's the bike I did the drive for. It was about 400 miles but hit some weather that turned it into about 9 hours of driving. It was tacked onto a different drive I already had to do for part of the way which made it a bit better.
You'll have to excuse the poorly lit photos. I just got home and am not willing to do the whole schebang tonight.
But it's (I believe) an all-chrome 60s Masi Special step through. One of only a handful that I've ever heard of. Check out the one-piece bar/brake lever combo.

I don't drive, but one time I biked an hour one way to pick up a frame. Many 45ish minute rides for wheels. Another time, I planned to ride a century round trip for a great deal on a titanium quill stem. I had a friend with me and he ended up crashing real bad 5 miles away from the CL meet up, so we decided to phone in a ride home and forgo the stem.
