Silver Solder Sources
Hello everyone. I am having fun sticking everything together with Harris Safety-Silv 56 1/16" solder. It is amazing how many things you can use this stuff for. I have been using both 50 and 56 and have used up five ounces already. Buying them an ounce at a time has been costly, I would like to stock up and buy 5-10 ounces of the 56. What is your source?

I have heard of people going direct for large quantities. Once you hit a pound of the stuff, the price goes down You could call and ask about minimum quantities.

This is the link to the suppliers list elsewhere on/in this forum. Many frame building suppliers also offer various fillers. I started to buy the 5oz "tins" of Harris 56% long ago and will need some replacement soon. But as I have moved onto bronze for most of the brazing on my frames I don't go through those 5oz. very fast. The increasing cost of silver over the years is but one reason I do more bronze, not wanting to cut and reassemble lugs is another reason to go to fillets. Andy

The only supplier in that thread that discounts for silver quantity is Cycle Design. I bought some silver recently through Amazon, but it was only 1 oz. The nice thing about the bulk silver from Cycle Design is that the loops are bigger diameter.

The cheapest source I have found for 5 ounces of 56 is Air Gas part # HAR5635.
I have been using a lot bronze as well and I am just finishing up a fillet brazed bike. Bronze is so much cheaper, making it an easy choice. When it comes to small braze ons and lugs, silver is much easier to work with.
