Not even C&V, but...
I've been working on this project for months now, and just got the site live at 3 in the morning. It's not C&V in the least bit, but I wished to share it, nonetheless (after all, there's a lot of 3-speed content here).
It's definitely another N+1 = N affair brewing here...
The Bike Share Museum | The Bike Share Museum celebrates the pragmatic charm of purpose-built rental bicycles.
Major irony: It was easier to acquire the retired ofo bike from the county than it has been putting together that little bespoke website

Interesting idea. It seems in LA, motorized scooters have bulldozed share bikes out of the way as well as a few pedestrians. I'd still rather pedal my own. I don't know if you want contributions, but here's a few sightings, mostly Lime bikes.
At Chatsworth, CA Metrolink Station.
Metro share bikes at the Rose Bowl. The rack has been removed.
My Legnano, on the rack.

Those Metro Shares are one of Trek's BCycle models - looks like the earliest incarnation. We have them here in Aventura, Florida; same model, different color scheme. Broward has BCycle too, but they use a completely different frame design (shared with AvMed Rides), and also electric models.
Been a long time since I've seen a Lime looking that nice. They're all but gone here, and I've had only two sightings recently.
Speaking of which...how much to rent the Legnano?

It's going to be an interesting thing if items like this get to be collectible... Even if they don't, just knowing someone appreciates them can help get some respect for them.

I am of two minds on this Lime type bike share, on one hand I am all for using bikes for short trips/commuting on the other hand for a while the streets of Seattle were littered with these bikes and not all the users were particular aware of where they got left when they were done or how leaving a bike in the middle of a sidewalk might impact other members of society. Now that I think about it, seems like Lime has dialed back their presence a bit but they are still all over and now we have the Uber Jump bikes which I have heard are a bit nicer than the Limes, I did ride a Lime E bike just for kicks but found the electric assist a bit vague for my tastes and while I expected the bike to be heavy it was a tank of the bloated King Tiger variety.

And yes, it's another way to change perceptions and build better appreciation for what bike share can do, even if it's less about the service and more about the bikes.

Surprisingly enough, Lime, more than any other company, did an excellent rollout along Miller Dr./57th Ave here in Miami. They would put about five conventional Limes and one Lime-E per bus stop on the only route in Miami that has anything resembling a protected bike lane (half of the sidewalk just got striped in green and the intersections were left dangerous as ever - a zero effort attempt), and there was more than enough space for them. Unfortunately, this also got the axe thanks to the County.
I've ridden the Jump, and it's moped levels of heavy, but the assist feels perfect. I've ridden a Cannondale Contro-E Speed, and it wasn't even a contest - the Jump felt better, if a bit more industrial.
Lime had some E's down here before they backed out. They're all now in Orlando. Gotta bug them to bring one out for a review, seeing as I'm a bike share journalist now

They have some of those bikes in Phoenix (mostly in Scottsdale), but way more of the electric scooters. I never did try any, why pay for that, when I was already on my bike? 😉
Yeah, people leave them everywhere, and it gets really annoying. Especially when they're blocking sidewalks and the ramps into intersections. 😬🙄😉

I see your dockless bicycle junkyard and raise you 300,000 useless, polluting, bicycle-lane-encroacing Volkswagens.

Cool idea!
Thanks for doing it.
A year or two ago a local news article indicated the Dallas area had more of these type bikes than any other area in the US if I recall correctly.
They were practically everywhere.
Yesterday, I saw this ad on the local Craigslist in the mid-cities area of Dallas - Ft. Worth
for the yellow Ofo bikes.
$65 for one bike with quantity discounts.
It indicates they are new.
Seller must have purchased a bunch of them to resell.
I think their were 5 or more companies competing here at the peak of the rental bike boom.
https://dallas.craigslist.org/mdf/bi...891291298.html
I found myself wondering if a quality inflatable tire would fit on those wheels.
Translate, cheap generator light system for one of my bikes.
My quess is it would require new rims and wheel rebuild.
I also would like to know what these bikes originally cost and what went wrong with their 'business model'.
Regarding the cost, a comparably equipped REI bikes, but with inflatable tires are over a grand, aren't they?
Also the tracking system intrigues me.
How big?
Where located on the bike?
Available to buy for individuals?
How much?
Transferrable to one of my bikes?
I'm visualizing a vintage mt bike with some of these parts.
Thanks for doing it.

The wheels are 24x1-3/8", so their use is pretty limited. Rims are probably hooked bead though; bet all you'd have to do is drill a hole for Schraders and install a pair of normal tires and tubes, if that size is OK for your needs.
I'm pretty sure these use 13g, not 14g spokes though. Might need to use spoke washers on the hub if you intend to re-use it. Still, the Panasonic 6V NRH012 hubs are nice, if you don't mind the threaded mount for a band brake. You can get a similar model in the States from Peter White Cycles, but otherwise, an in-the-box ofo is probably the easiest and cheapest way. Plus, if it is a 3-speed model, you probably get a Nexus 3-speed on the back in the bargain.
That seller shows two different ofo bikes. I believe the final US incarnation of them were the Kents, like mine. If that seller's examples do differ from mine, I'd actually be interested in one for $65, if it wouldn't cost that much to ShipBikes one over here.
I'd say $65 is a darn good price, at any rate.
The tracking system is ofo-proprietary on a 3G network, using their Titania board. The board has a Quectel UG96 chip w/IMEI on it. I highly doubt you can reprogram it for your own use. Someone posted a video of the lock's tear down on YouTube:
Fair warning: Though he denies it, I'm 100% sure the lock is off a stolen ofo - the lock loop has been angle-ground off. He covers the IMEI too before ripping off the label, which is in itself suspicious.
Mine no longer has the 3G guts in it - it's been modified slightly. The lock has been reassembled as it is part of the original look and purpose of the bike, which I'm trying to preserve.

FYI, @cooperryder - the seller of the ofos sent me photos. They appear to have the Panasonic 6V hubs up front, and a polished aluminum shell Sturmey-Archer XL-RD3 in back (though the hub appears to be marked as the X-RD3, despite the large flange). Hubs alone are worth $65 and then some. Ought to be interesting for some English bike builds...
If you plan on getting one, let me know and I'd gladly cover the cost of another and the shipping here if you could facilitate.

Guess they didn't learn anything from the 70's. All of that is just dead inventory and not very Lean.

News update: @cooperryder picked one up for me today, along with another for himself, and one that we're splitting between us for bits. It's a phenomenal deal, just for that Sturmey hub (which is an X-RD3, not the XL - photo threw me off) and the bits to make it work.

I believe it was a 30 mile drive for him in a borrowed pickup.
If there's bike share in your area, you might have better luck taking a snoop through the local scrapyard areas. Lime in particular seems to cut frames in half and send them for scrapping. Not my pic, but it is local - note the obviously cut maintube - first bike in the row:
I know I'm for bike share, but this approach is a bloody freaking waste of Panasonic hubs and Nexus 3-speeds. You know they'll survive Armageddon no matter what happens to the bike itself.

EDIT: Wait, apparently there was a rule broken...what was it? Sales?
Also - I should correct myself - I keep saying these dockless bikes run 24 x 1-3/8" wheels - they don't. The smaller dockless size is just the conventional ISO 559 26" size w/1.50 solid tires on them. It's good stuff. I would assume the rims are hooked bead even with the solid tires. If so, it'd be pretty interesting to do a 3-speed IGH MTB build with one.
