Water bottle that doesn't make water taste like plastic?

Has anyone used one of these? I'm thinking about picking up a couple if they work. After a couple of days, water from my Performance bottles gets icky.

Stop leaving water in the bottle for a couple of days then. I rinse and refill daily.

Hahaha. I knew someone was going to say that. Sometimes I forget and when I'm out riding, I don't have a choice. I'd just prefer one less thing to worry about. But thanks for the suggestion.

I use regular old Specialized #4 bottles. I can get them super cheap at a bike shop here, and they don't make my water all gross even after a day or two.

I usually carry my bottle to my desk, leave the bottle open till the evening when I take it back. This way the bottle kindaa dries off and doesn't smell. I have found the Eddie Bauer bottles at target pretty good. I use one of those to have handy water in my bedroom and it doesn't smell for like 3 days in a row filled with water ..

The Soma ones are quite nice. It's odd to drink from one for the first time because of an odd taste it gives the water: nothing. I still won't leave water in it for a long time out of principle.

I use them. Great bottles, espically for holding my cytomax on long rec rides (it's not fun when your energy drink starts tasting like plastic).

The only little nuances is that they don't fit as snug in bottle cages... I had a bottle jump out of a cage mounted behind the saddle once when i went over a sharp bump (so i bent the cage for a tighter fit).

I use the Klean Kanteen stainless steel bottle as well. I've pretty well stopped using plastic. Not only does it make the water taste gross, I've also developed a lot of chemical sensitivies and exposure to plastics doesn't help.

See the thread about Camelbak Podium bottles. I left water in one for 24 hours when the bottle was new, and got no plastic taste. The valve in the top works great, too.

They look nice, and I'd actually order one, except for the $40 order minimum.

Sigg bottles are aluminum right? Stainless steel is better. +1 for Kleen Kanteen. I bought mine from Amazon. Note that the 27 oz version is a little large for a bottle holder but it sorta works...

I can't picture trying to drink out of an aluminum/steel bottle. Do you have to suck the water out of the spout? Are you limited to drinking small volumes at a time?

LBS has those soma bottles I've been thinking of picking one up. I am going to cabela's at lunch today, see what they have in SS. My bottle-cage-fitting coffee cup has crapped out too. SS thermos would work for that too if it fits in the cage.

They carry them in the local Whole Foods type grocery stores here. You could try one of those to avoid the minimum and shipping charges

Looks like REI sells them:

i bought my sigg bottle for 20 bucks and they put a coating inside the bottle...i don't think the aluminum could harm you unless that coating was punctured somehow perhaps by denting the bottle

Thanks, but that's a different bottle. The Soma are plastic.

The new Gatorade bottles taste fine; they don't fit in all bottle cages, but they do in mine, which is all that matters.

I like the Polar Bottle Insulated bottles. In the Summer the water stays icy cold (I fill it with ice to the top then water) till lunch, and will stay cool outside for quite a while even when riding in hot conditions. In the Winter the bonus is that the water doesn't freeze. The water in the cap can freeze, but my rides are shorter in the Winter so I just prehydrate and rehydrate as soon as I get to work. My normal water bottle gets pretty ichy when out riding on a sunny hot day. Once thing that works well too is I will put my extra bottles in my pannier bags. With no direct sun light beaming down on the bottles they stay colder for much longer.

Happy riding,
André

Yeah, that's what turned me off, too, but I found them here as well, although looks like there are only 4 left.

They are also available here for only $4.95 each, but I don't know about tax and/or shipping.
