Right, I know this is not C&V and it really belongs in the mechanics forum. But, I know there are several of you here that use them. This post is covered in noob sauce. What tool is required to tighten the handlebar clamp? Tell me Campy doesn't expect me to use a 3.5mm Allen key. I'm still upset at them for the 7mm Allen key self extracting crank bolts.

i am a record 10 user but i thought the new ultrashift levers used a torx bolt. i wouldnt be surprised if the powershift did as well. if this is the case dont blame campy, it is the industry trend. just to name a few zipp, crank brothers, and sram are all going to torx with their stems, seatposts, and componets.

this doesnt appear to specify powershift but it does call for the use of a t25 when installing g3 ergo levers:

This is true. I recommend an L version of the torx 25 because one end is long and the 'L' will give you enough leverage. Be careful to put your weight into it because it would be easy to strip it at the angle of the wrench.

For the record, older 10s stuff just used a 5mm allen, but new 10 and 11 speed shifters do require a torx.

Thanks, guys. I figured it out and found a driver in a tool kit. I need to get an L torx for sure. This is obviously the most modern component I own.

Glad to help. Still learning my way around Campy, but have become fairly familiar with it. Indexing and setup was really, really easy.

I set the Athena 11 levers up with an 8 speed era 600 Tri Color group and a 9 speed HG cassette. It shifted like a champ in the stand; haven't had it out yet.

This is good to know as I also ordered some campy levers (just the 10 speed) after that other thread here where people mentioned the sale. Wonder how long it'll take for them to come from ribble.

Hmm, now you got me thinking that I might try the Campy 10 speed Veloce levers that I have with the 600 7 speed group that will be going on my wife's bike. I think she'd like the integrated levers better than the bar ends I had planned to use.

The 7 speed derailleurs should shift it all fine, but I'd use an 8 speed cassette.

Unfortunately, that's not an option as I can't fit an 8 speed cassette on the wheels or in the dropouts. The wheels have an existing 6 speed cassette, so I might try that first.

The reason Ergo 11/Shimano 9 RD and cassette and Ergo 10/Shimano 8 RD and cassette combos work is the amount of cable the shifter pulls.

I'm using 8 speed Ergos with an 8 speed Campagnolo RD and 7 speed HG freewheel and it shifts like a champ.

For your wife's bike you might consider Retroshifts and indexing DT shifters. Send me an email if you're interested in going that route.

I placed the order on 2/7. It was "despatched" on 2/9. I received it on 2/21.

Thanks for the suggestion on retroshifts. I have showed them to her and was met with a "nope." She doesn't like the look of them and unfortunately aesthetics do figure into what she's willing to ride. Come to think of it, she has really small hands and has effed up thumbs from gymnastics, so I think I might rule out Campy ergos and just stick with the bar end shifters.

I have a pair of Kelly Take off's that I'll probably be taking off when my Campy levers come that I'd offer as an alternate suggestion, but those'd probably be also met with the aesthetic "no thanks" and also require a bit of thumb usage, so bar ends might be the best solution.

You can actually run shimano 9 speed with 10s ergos and shimano 10 speed with 11s ergos using alternative cable clamping on the RD.

I've talked to a bunch of people about this and am quite close to pulling the trigger on 11s ergos to shift my 10s shimano drivetrain (actually 600 tricolor also, running in friction).

Right. You can also use a Shiftmate. I understand lots of people use the Hubbub clamping, but I like the idea of just "plug and play" as well as staying with 9 cogs or less as the chains and cassettes are so much more reasonable.
