Shoe recommendations - for touring pedals.

I use MKS pedals and am looking for a stiffer sole for better standing climbing.

Regular shoes work fine, but have a softer sole, and something stiffer would be great for longer rides.

Any suggestions? Something less than 100$ USA?

Could I buy some mountain bike clipless shoes and just not remove the cleat cover on the sole? That way I could get the stiff walkable cycling type shoe?

Think about stiffening the arch thru buying another insole..

with a stiffer arch support.
and use the shoes you feel comfortable in.. touring should include walking..
so you can see the places you pass thru ,.. Castles and Museums .. and taverns..

If toe clips/straps appeal to you the sole has to be smooth to get the shoe in.

Big Platform pedals are fine , with regular shoes.

I got a pair of Ergon Pedals they're $70. large surface..

the contour shape does a fine job of centering your foot over the pedal axis, properly.
