i have only ever used the older style shimano peds with the metal body , pd6620 and im trying to replace 1 set i have because its getting play in the left one , im wondering what new ped is the equivalent , i get the old style peds well under 40 bucks and log thousands of miles on them , the new peds cost like over a 100 and they are all carbon , i like carbon but not on my peds , i thought about getting some look peds again but then i would need to buy new shoes or run two cleats on one shoe and thats just silly , any ideas on which one i should look for , even 105 costs 90 something puke bucks !

I have Campy groupsets on two bikes but new 105 pedals on both bikes and they are fantastic pedals. Nice wide platform, great cleat and no hot spots.

I paid $115 from BikeTires Direct which was about 30% off list. The model below 105 is a bit cheaper and has great reviews.

I put the entry level shimano SPD-SL pedals on my first road bike. As I recall they were 50-60 bucks. When I got a new bike about 6 months ago, I got Ultegra pedals for it. Not much difference to tell you the truth. Slightly lighter, but look and work the same.

FWIW, Giant now sells spd-sl cleats in two piece so you can remove half and install the new half and keep your bolt positioning.

You know that there's a tool for servicing the pedal, right? It's likely that pulling the spindle, flushing with new grease and reinserting and tightening will do the trick. PG

I found going from a metal body to Ultegra to be a huge difference. Not the weight, but the super-wide platforms. Makes clipping-in much more precise.

I found these Look-compatible cleats. I don’t think anyone but Shimano makes SPD-SL due to patent restrictions.

My earlier ones were not a metal body. Some kind of composite I think. Platform size looks identical to the ultegra. I think they were the RS500 or RS550 pedals.

Gotcha. That makes sense.

I couldn't believe how much better the new "wide-body" pedals felt after I had installed them on my road bike. Shimano did a really good job with that particular update.

So, I got curious after your reply. I couldn't find the packaging for them, but turned my shoes over and sure enough...............it's a full exact SPD-SL shape with the wider yellow grippers on the sides. I held them side by side to actual Shimano SPD-SL's on a separate set of shoes I have............identical except the 2-piece design.

I'll have to see if I can find the packaging or a marking on the clear for part #.

It's literally a copy of an SPD-SL with two puzzle pieces.

Maybe the LBS selling Giant stuff found some weird knockoff Chinese stuff and was selling it as Giant? Dunno.

i cant describe the play , its weird its more feel than a wiggle , the left feels looser than the right when i pull up , idk !

yeah but they are carbon and way over priced , i dont want carbon pedals , unless someone else is buying lol !
