I've been all signed up for a few weeks. The past two years I've wanted to do it but something else always came up. I have a few friends also going down for the ride (ok, not really for the ride but for the pie). There's a contest for the best decorated helmet.
I've heard that they also have lots of good homemade cookies at the rest stops. Why is it that I always remember the quality of food on the rides and not the specific route we took?
The organizer also emailed me that if anyone is into triathlons, they also have the unofficial Pie Tri that day. The biking starting point is at a beach so some people swim first and than do a run after the ride.

midschool did you do the 62? I did the 50K. It was a hot one out there and more hilly than I was expecting. I am used to riding on the prairie path so the hills I am NOT used to. It was nice to have some hills. I am happy with the 50K I think the 100K would have been pretty painfull for me in my current state of training or lack thereof

I did the 100k. It was one of the flattest metrics I've done. No wind, fortunately. I hooked up with two folks who were going the basically the same speed as me (or else they were being nice and slowing for me). The rest steps were adequate, but not fantastic (the homemade cookies were excellent), and the course markings at the beginning were a bit poor. Lots of rural Wisconsin views of farm fields and corn.
A nice Trek Pilot 2.0 was being raffled. At the end, the available pies were apple and cherry. There was very little post-ride food, other than fruit (and the pie), and they were a bit stingy with the water (in fact, informing me to take only a small (6 oz) bottle of water). There was no water at the beginning of the ride. Glad I had at least brought a little to start as well as some gatorade and energy bars.
Despite the shortcomings, I will do this ride again because of its nice course. Some folks gave suggestions along the way for improvement. Just needs a little tweaking to be an excellent ride. The fact that there is a beach for swimming afterwards is a nice bonus.
Some high school kids with nice kits and bike caught up to us, passed us, got passed by us, and could never quite keep up again. That was kind of cool. My riding partner said he did randonneuring, so I figured this was a piece of cake for him.
Thanks to Sharon and Dan (from the state of Oregon) for the company for the entire ride. Averaged 18 mph. With stops, 3 hr 42 min. 3 hr 27 min of travel.

At first I had planned on doing the 62. When the ride started, I opted for the 31 mile route (35 on my computer). I missed the mass start due to busting off my presta valve when airing up my tire. The ride itself was just like Wiswell described. It was cool in the morning but it started to heat up near the end. I did the route in about 2.5 hours at around my normal average of 14.6 mph. For the first time this year I did all the passing and did not get passed once.
I would have done the 61 route but I only got out to ride once this past week and I had some family duties to attend to afterwards. Plus I wasn't looking forward to being out in that heat for very long. I did finally get to meet SJCzar and her famous polka dotted Trek.
Just a few more tweaks like Wiswell mentioned and this will be a great ride. I will be back again in 08. Now the big question, where is my Cool Whip to go on my apple pie?

Nice to get to meet you midschool and thanks for taking our official before ride pictures. I'm sure we'll probably run into each other at another ride.
We decided to only do the 50K as well. One of the group has problems with asthma and Sat. was definitely not a good day for that. We also needed to get back to Milwaukee to make it up to the races in Grafton.
It was a fun ride and we hung out for awhile afterwards catching up with new friends we'd made on other rides.
I opted for the cherry pie and was not disappointed. When I got home I did have to make a run to the store for some ice cream....can't have naked pie.

SJCzar--Funny thing here. When you mentioned about forgetting your sunglasses, I forgot some things also.
1-Forgot to air up the front wheel after busting off presta valve in rear wheel (still had plenty of air).
2-Forgot to take Advil before starting (I can't stand heat headaches).
3-Forgot to apply sunblock.
4-I'm sure there was another thing but I forgot that also...
See you around.
