Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Wheels opinion

I'm looking at another set of wheels. I really love the shimano hubs. I used to have the Dura Ace 9000 C24 wheels. I'm looking for something a little deeper like 50-60mm. Therefore I'm really like what I'm reading about the Dura Ace C50. I can get this set for $1445. What else should I be looking at? Flo 60?...

A little less than that will get you a set of the November Rail52s. They're right in the depth range you're looking for, great wheels, and a great company to work with. Of course, that's not with Shimano hubs, but the hubs are fine nonetheless. And you can get them with White Industries or Chris King if you'd like.

Thanks. I did look at November but after thinking it over, I pulled the trigger on the C50. At $1445, it's the cheapest price I could find in the States. Even cheaper than UK. Now I need to save up for a crank base powermeter since I'm selling my powertap.

Ok I'll bite. For real? Just short of $1500 for a set of wheels? Do they at least come with tires? And if not, what sort of tires do you put on $1500 wheels?

Is there anything in cycling that's not overpriced? If it makes you happy then why not. I make a good living and can afford it. Do I need a $4500 bike? Of course not but I buy it because I like it. Hell, why do people pay $3000 for Zipp wheels? Maybe because the want to?

Great. I didn't know you could spend $3000 on wheels either. What tires do you put on these wheels?

I'm thinking c24 9000s are what you need. They're the perfect blend of aero and light.

I had the c24. They were indeed phenomenal. I just wanted to try something deeper.

Why do you make life so hard? You should have enjoyed your C24s, but now you have made things more complicated for yourself for no reason.
