Dirt is suddenly resplendent.

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

They might put Harrys out of business. Heck, a person could pick them up on the weekly trip to Bass Pro shops or Cabelas.

"Give me a box of Remington 12ga. 6's, a Mossy Oak cycling rain jacket and some of them Carhartt triple blades. Does the jacket come with a auto glass logo sticker?"

I mean, gravel roads and dirt roads are, by definition, roads.

West is west, gravel roads are roads, and riding a bike on a road is road cycling. People can disagree but I don't understand how.

Better air, better scenery, safer. Heck yeah.

(Or should I say more resplendent air, more resplendent scenery...)

Resplendent is a surprisingly difficult word to type!

I always thought the word was "resplendid".

Glad I came across this thread before I uttered it out loud and embarrassed myself in finer company.

The mental image I'm getting is that, where you live, transitions between paved and gravel roads are banned. Any person who creates a "pavement ends" sign in defiance of the regime is sentenced to death. There's a paved road network and a gravel road network, but they don't connect to each other at all.

My friends who trail run tell me that they find running on pavement to be harder on their bodies.

Not only must you correctly pronounce it, you must correctly use it: Remember, it means shining or brilliant. It is no a synonym for "increasing in popularity" as the author of the Outside article seems to be using the word.

You're in good company, I thought it was in the linked article too, but the word choice contained in the thread title was actually our own Seattle Forrest's.

Kind of like the 7 and any of the 6th or 8th Ave subway lines in NYC.

Sometimes.

Local to me, there's a big state park. The route through there in many parts is yes, dirt road/gravel road. So would qualify for what you say. Road biking.

Then, there's a few miles of trail in there that are NOT what I'd consider "road biking". I have ridden 28's through there, and others do, but most eventually regret it and pop a tube or eat ****. Or get tired of getting passed by riders on 30psi off-road tires.

The reason around here you see gravel and cross bikes on the road is that we ride them from the house to the trail, we don't drive. If it's within 10mi each way, I'd ride there and back. The cross course in town is about 8 hilly miles away, the state park gravel about the same. Gives a good warmup. I can take greenway for 1/2 of the way to the state park, or more if I wish.

Running on pavement is totally unresplendent.

Trail running promotes a bit of core strength as well.

Twists and turns, ups and downs, uneven surfaces, constantly slight or sometimes drastic changes in direction all require balance and some amount of core strength.

That shiny dirt, right off the factory floor, is a many splendored thing. Loses its luster once it gets dirty though.

So in other words, you're saying that it's essentially no longer the the April rose that only grows in the early spring?

I wonder if the intended word was "resurgent"? But "resplendent" had more "bling".
