Meanwhile, in more useful sectors of BF a C&V guy posted a walkthrough on saddle reupholstery so I gave it a whirl last night. So stoked with the results I'll be doing another tonight. Sorry about bad snapshots, but...

This one's on deck for tonight. Other saddle was bought at same time and in slightly worse shape:

That looks great. You must be skilled with the sewing machine. I can barely sew a button back on a shirt

No sewing required BLR. Just contact cement, some leather (or fake leather) and careful work.

Here's the helpful walkthrough by JAPINO. I pretty much went along with instructions except using brush-on contact cement and I didn't bother masking the rails/seatpan underside.

You know, I actually stared at that for a minute thinking it didn't look right, and then just went on.

If that had happened to me I would have refused to pay for it. and then said I wanted black, retape it in black. definately time for a new LBS.

In other news I do have to find a new LBS. the front fell of mine and it's stuck inside the CBD No-Go cordon anyway.

Nice job on the saddle, I tried that once and it was a terrible fail.

Thx. Yeah, I tried recovering a saddle using staples about a year ago. That was the suckiest suck that ever sucked.

Having someone who's been successful describe the process does a world of good.

LesterOfPuppets, you're skilled at leathercraft. Did you take a home correspondence course?

That looks like quite an adventure. I like the swirling colored rocks (or whatever it is).

I put one on the cannondale. I was going to just use the 105 compact I had, but for that much, it was unpossible not to upgrade.

I have ordered from them twice, both times really fast shipping (free) and a free t-shirt... sucky t-shirts, but... well free.
