carbon soles: worth the price?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

carbon soles: worth the price?

Assuming an affirmative response, I'm looking for recommendation.

Yes.

Light and stiff for maximal power transfer.

Buy what fits your feet and budget.

Yes...and a shoe I've been riding lately is the Giro Factor. Very impressive shoe. Easton makes the sole...they make three for Giro, the EC90 on the factor being the middle sole. They make a pro shoe that has a lighter sole although they are the same thickness.

I just went from a Sidi Energy with plastic molded sole to a Sidi Ergo2 with carbon lite sole, and the difference is quite clear. The carbon sole wins hands down. Same sole is in the Sidi Genius 6.6.

They can make plastic soles quite stiff, just as they did 20 years ago. But to do that means those older shoes are as heavy as boat anchors compared to more modern carbon shoes.

I love my carbon cycling shoes. Mine were slightly used, and really cheap because of it. I recommend whichever ones that fit well and don't break the bank.

Bonktown just had Shimano R310's on sale at 170$ I think. If you wait a while they'll probably pop back up. They had a bunch of sizes and a large stock too.

I've been wearing Mavic Zxellium's since last fall and absolutely love them. Comfortable and stiff and they fit my feet like a glove.

Custom fitted carbon fiber soles molded to your feet definitely worth it.

Carbon just for the sake of being carbon not that big of deal.

I think it's worth it. I like the Specialized S-Works.

Totally worth it - I went from plastic soles to carbon and the stiffness/power transfer is so much better with carbon that I would never go back. It's not like you have to spend a ton either, I just got some simple TIME carbon soled shoes off bonktown for like $50-60.
