IGH directly powered by cranks

Recently I came across Kervelo's Kernel hub, an IGH on a wheel which can be directly powered by cranks.
https://www.kervelo.com/transmission...ub-kernel-hub/

Wondering if there were similar other products out there I tried googling gearing for Penny Farthings, and stumbled on Bicymple's Penny Farthing, which comes with a 2 speed IGH integrated into the drive wheel. Though I can't seem to find out the make or model.

I know Pinion drives have been around for a while, but this is new to me.

Does anyone know of similar products by the well-known brands: Shimano, Sturmey Archer and the like?

Great looking hub and bicycles.

I'm not a penny farthing kind of guy, but if I were I'd consider adding that hub to one. Maybe the 4 speed.

Sadly I can't seem to find any reviews for the bikes or hubs. Just a smattering of videos here and there.

I'm not terribly impressed by the Kervelo bikes actually as they seem to show slight wobbling in the few videos available. More so than in other recumbents I've seen anyway. Perhaps some frame refinement still needs to be made.

Edit: I stand corrected on my previous statement as this video shows the Tourer model to be quite stable. Probably stability issues have been ironed out by now.

Happy to see you still continue to upload more Youtube videos. You are probably the only man out there publishing comprehensive IGH stuff. I personally have benefited immensely. Thanks for your invaluable contributions.

Thank you for the comment. I would very much like to get my hands on one of those Kernel units.

Looking at the specs of the hub, it seems to me the wheel size could not be varied much for practical application as there is no intermediate cog.

First gear ratio is = 1.52
Fastest gear ratio = 0.28

I wonder how that translates to gear inches.

Any news about the Kervelo hubs? I contacted them on their website, Facebook and Linkedin, but absolutely no reaction.

Another 2-speed IGH kernel hub at www mc2bike dot com (newbies cannot post URLs (

The bicymple penny farthing uses a 2-speed, freewheeling Schlumpf hub.
Are Schlump hubs freewheeling by default? Or does bicymple use some custom-made Schlump hub?

Please let me know if you have any recent news about Kervelo.

There are other threads about crank gear boxes.
ats sells licenced copies of schlumpf

paterson. I think FSA sells licenced copies.

Efneo
Efneo 3-speed front bicycle Gearbox

Schlumpf mountain makes more sense since the high gear is 1:1 where you will be at most of the time. The others use overdrive so you will have less efficiency most of the time. It's 2.5 while the others are 1.65 or 1.75
https://www.schlumpfdrive.com/index.php/mountain-drive.html

But what I don't like is the wide q factor and sometimes no option for shorter crank arm length. Double chainring would give more options
