My daughter wanted a bike for summer college for "around town and to get to her internship". Enter the newly conditioned 1971 Schwinn Suburban 5 speed!

New alloy wheels? 700c? If so, way to go!

I have fond memories of crashing around Manhattan on a flat-barred, 5 speed Suburban. With fenders.

+1 on the alloy wheels.
She might like, and get value from a set of the correct reach dual-pivot side pulls.

Nice.

Nice job OP looks like the perfect getting around town bike, I refurbed a french market Peugeot Mixte for my girl a few years back. She doesn't like me posting pictures of her on the web, despite her constant use of snapchat lol so here is just the bike

Thanks everyone. And yes' new alloy wheels which makes it easier to stop. I didn't updo the brake calipers but did add modern long pads which seem to do the trick. This bike actually has an interesting history as I purchased it from a retired Professor that rode it all around France when she taught in Paris. Best $20.00 I've spent in awhile.

And she she's a Crazy Zeta! (That's what we called them at U of W, back in the '80s. My older sister was one; she fit right in)

My kid rides vintage, too. Her bike is s 1972 Pug UE-18. I couldn't get her to take it to college with her though, Seattle U has pretty compact campus and she doesn't get out in the city much.

I have one of those in blue that I bought my wife new in about 1980. Hers has the Shimano FFS. Its in our shed she hasn't rode it in several years. She still rides a steel bike but its a newer Jamis.
